GTO by what looked like GM

Has anyone seen one of these? I thought it was a BMW coming up behind me on the way to Ft Worth today. It was a red GTO with a GM tag on it. It also had a 5.3 liter tag on the back. He tried to get a highway race going, but the roads were wet and the temp was 32'...no way was I going to stomp on it to show him what a truck can do. It did look like he had some good pulling power when he was passing cars in front of me.

I hope everyone has a good holiday and stays safe.

Yup..Been out for about a year now. Pontiac brought back the GTO. Pretty fast, It's got the GM LS1 in it. As for the styling I think they could have done better.

2004- 350HP
2005- 400HP

kinda heavy, not too many people like them (lack of GTO heritage) I like them, they have a (as you mentioned bmw) European style to them.

In my opinion the GTO is a nice ride, but the above statement is correct it's a bit plain jane for the hardcore GTO guys, I read about a " Judge" version in the works with 500 plus hp, paying alot more attention to the details that graced the original car.

The 04 had a 5.7 not 5.3. I love their styling. It's classy. I know I'll get flamed for it, but when I see Mustangs and Fbody's I think "kiddie" car. The inside of the GTO is amazing. I would love to have one. The company I work for made the GTO that won Best GM car at SEMA this past year. If you're considering a nice coupe - check one out. With the end of the year incentives, you could get one really cheap. They are very modable too. My buddy Jeff has an MP112 on his

The new GTO's are a "neutured" knock off of the Ausi Holden's. I have driven an '04 and was not impressed. Very sluggish, and washy. Just get an LS1 and mod it with the extra money you will save if you have to have a GM. Lookup the Holden R8 if you want to see what GM should have done.

The original GTO was the first American Muscle Car. I'ts a shame GM decided to import this plane Jane Holden, and call it a GTO.

I bought a 2004 GTO last month. Good end of year discounts.

Wanted a fast car for my wife to drive, but had to be sure she could not beat my Lightning.

You must have driven a lemon. They are good for mid to high 13 second times. It barley got beaten by the Mach I in a recent magazine shootout (by 2 tenths or something). My friends yellow GTO is pretty darn fast. Just my 2 cents. I do agree about the styling, lack luster at best. GM is supposed to take back the the control of the car next year and is supposedly re-designing the body front to back according the Automobile magazine. It should look a lot better.

Living in and around motown has it's perks. About 2 months ago I saw a chevy version in a parking lot. I had to do a triple take. All but one badge was missing. But it clearly had different facia along with mfg plates and cheverlot on it.

I've seen several GTO's run at Gateway Raceway, and none have broken into the 13's.

I stopped by the Pontiac dealership a couple of months ago to get supercharger oil and they had a black one on the floor. The interior is nice. Pontiac has always outdone Chevy in that department. But it's too 'Grand Prix' -ish. Very benign styling. The LS1 - MN6 combo is interesting though. Wouldn't mind banging through those gears a few times.

The 05 GTO does 0-60 in 4.6sec
1\4 in 12.9
has a new LS2 6L

The 04 didn't get great reviews becuase they didn't like the looks. Said it didn't turn heads. However, it's supposed to be very nice inside, comfortable and pretty quick. Now the 05 is going to be down right fast.

Listen to the sound clip from the site. It sounds awesome.

I think GM did a great dis-service to the name plate GTO with this car. Sure it's got the performance. But it looks nothing like a GTO.

I think it would have been smarter to completely reskin it with a much more retro GTO look.

Timeslip???

Magazine times don't mean much at all...

Real world numbers are usually close to a second slower.

Magazines get to test car because the manufacturer wants to sell them. The cars are usually ringgers, as are the drivers and everything is a 'corrected' time. When is the last time you saw a timeslip in the magazine. Or for that matter, when is the last time someone knowledgable accepted a 'correct' time for your car as fact.

Magazines are for advertising. If it's a 12.9 car, post up a timeslip for it.

Benchracing only counts if the bench is under your butt while your racing for real.
