Your lucky, I looked everywhere for the silver one. I ended up the the dark red. While moving I dropped a box on it so its now squashed. I got the Tamiya last Christams but have not run it yet.

As Tim mentioned it might be senseible to buy some backup parts off ebay or some upgraded stuff to make it faster

Here is a pic of the Tamiya lightning body ( black ) next to the HPI F150 body

easier to see difference here

here you can see my hopped up electric tamiya car in a race against 2 fast gas cars - My car wasnt dialed in so it had some control issues
But it was FAST

When i bought mine they had 2 Silver,1 Black and 1 dark Red, i should have bought all of them and sold them to other Lightning guy's that couldn't find one. But at $100 a pop, i was lucky to get mine i guess. There is a Black one on e-Bay right now 4-sale, it has a chrome tube that runs along the top of the bed rails and up behind the cab.Mine didn't have that mine came with a bed cover on it, which i'm glad of i don't care to much for the chrome tube.

I like the Black body better than the Red one, how many colors can you get them in? In the other links that had them 4-sale, they was all Red.

Nice toys DEIMatt. I have a Savage .25 and a Traxxas Jato. I just got into boats and I bought a used Enforcer Manta Ray gas rc boat. That thing is wicked, it kicks up a 5 foot rooster tail and hits about 45mph. I love it!

Dude i have soo been thinking about boats..Man those Jato's are very cool!! 2 speed tranny, right out of the box they will flat run with about anything..They aren't really legal in competitive racing..but where we race at they don't care..I like em
The savage is a good basher but awful for competitive racing..The Revo's just smoke them...And the Truggy's but the Truggys are just a Buggy with big tires..LOL

I've done RC for about 15 years. Anything you run in anger will get beat up. Buy the Tamiya as a shelf queen. If you want an RC car to race, go to eBay and buy someone's entire setup cheap. For $100 or so, you can get a real RC racer with batteries, charger, radio, and all.
That's a bit of a generalized statement. There's nothing wrong with the Tamiya kit, it all depends on what you are comparing it to. The Tamiya kit uses the TLO1 road race chassis and is very modifiable. There are tons of upgradable parts for it. It's a excellent 4wd chassis. I have one that is lightly modified, and has a wicked motor, that will run with any basic gas car.

If you buy the RTR (ready to race) version, that's the one that comes painted (red) and assembled. If you can find the build it yourself version, it comes with a clear lexan body and you can paint it any way you like. They are a little harder to come by nowadays.

This is a TL-01 built for you with a Lightning body, it is 'real' in fact. Just because it's ready to run doesn't make it a Tyko Turbo Hopper. Note the price. That is a Tamiya kit price plus a couple bucks for them putting it together. 'Real" radio and you can buy replacement parts for it. $200 is a bit spendy as the chassis is only about $80 and the radio can be had for under $60. The body is where you get screwed. I think the TL is a hair short for 1/10th so if you have a RS4 you might need to space front and rear on the a arms to get the tires lined up. I've raced for over 17 years.
To date I've had:
1st; Tyko Turbo Hopper (lasted a day) (1989 I was 14)
From then on: Kyosho Optima, Ultima, Ultima pro, Optima Pro
Big brute, Clod buster, Monster clod, mid night pumpkin, big bear, lunchbox, Rustler, Stampede, Nitro rustler and stampede, HPI RS4, RS4 pro, MT, RS4 Pr0 2, Nitro RS4, 3 Rc10t's (2 nitro's) and currently I still have 1 RC10t Nitro, Nitro Rustler and RS4 pro 2.
I have ran against many many Tamiya on road cars and they are quite tougher than thought.

Right now I'm looking for a Blackfoot, possibly a Nitro monster truck, I need a camp Dune Toy.

Yeah, boats are cool. I had a Nitro Hammer but I sold it due to the 7 minute run times and it couldn't take the rough water I run in. I got the Enforcer used and it has a 25 cc gas weedeater motor and a surface drive prop. It runs 45 minutes on a tank of 87 octane, not tuning required.

The Jato is awesome. I don't understand the 2.8 tires Traxxas mounts on them but I converted to 2.2's. You can find them used on Ebay for $280 bucks.

If you race the Revo is the only way to go.

yup the TL01 was my first RC car... its a great car and takes a damn beating... but the only down fall is its hard to find half-shafts to handle any good power... and mods are limited...
