Cervinis Lift Off Hoods

Any reason they shouldn't be run on the street? Looking at the cowl induction hood. Other than a weakened front end in a crash what other adverse affect could it have? I just see weight savings where you dont need it.

the factory aluminum hood is very light. you might save some weight removing the hinges, but i don't think it would be worth it. now some carbon fiber fenders with some subtle vents in them to extract heat from the engine compartment, that would be the ticket.

Weight Savings?

I have the Cervini Ram Air hood and it weighs about twice as much as the stock aluminum hood. There is no weight saving going from stock to fiberglass, just for appearances only.

you most likely have the normal version of the hood, steel, i'm talking about the Lift off versions which are fiberglass. I'm not worried about weight savings, but more the look...................but if i can also save some weight over the plain steel cowl hood, why not? Is there a reason i shouldnt run it on the street?

Lift Off hood

Fast03:

I have the Cervini fibreglass ram air hood. I'm not sure what you mean by a "lift-off" hood, but all the glass hoods I checked are heavier than the stock aluminum hood. The glass hoods weigh about 45 pounds and are somewhat awkward to remove because of their size. I was going to mount my using hood pins until I felt just how heavy it is so I elected to go with the stock hinges. Appearance wise you can't go wrong with the better looking hoods and as far as safety concerns, I would think that the heavier glass is more protection than the lightweight aluminum stock hood. Go for it!!!

Cervini cowl induction hood

Fast03:
LeeAnn (Slowsvt95) has the Cowl induction hood on her 04 sonic blue Lightning. Check any of her posts and you can see it is a really great looking cosmetic upgrade. I believe it is a 3 inch cowl.
