I really would have thought that you would still be really safe.

YOu read it right but I am not 100% sure if it was due to the port. It was a new motor and I put the NGK plugs in from the old blown motor, so I guess it could be 3 things.
1.Plugs fowled from just breaking in the new motor
2. there were bad from the old motor
3. detonation

I am going to pull all the plugs once I get replacements to check them out. I will update all with my findings.

Halflife,

It would be really interesting to check your A/F currently. My theory is that on a near stock engine, the computer should be able to compensate for the ported blower. So you shouldn't be lean and I would be very surprised if you were. But, anything is possible.

tHAT is what I thought. I guess I will wait to put my 4lb on until the truck is on the dyno. I will have Sal do a pull as is if possible and post the results.

I have an 01 with stock pulleys, Apten blower porting, home ported upper, and modified stock air cleaner with Airaid drop in. I also have a wide band. I had to get a chip because with the Apten porting my A/F was almost 13/1. My stock guage also went over somewhere close to 9 oclock with the stock pulleys, I could not believe it.

That's amazing! You must be pushing close to 14lbs of boost, without pulleys. If the durability of the blower stands up, this is a great mod. What year is your truck? 99-00 run very rich with more timing, 01-02 are quite lean and 03-04 seem to adapt better to modifications. Its all in the factory program.
