Thinking about buying a Lightning

My dad is considering buying a Lightning. It is either going to be a used 99 or a new 03. Is there anything that we should be looking for...any common problems with these models? What would be a good price for both of these models? When we get the truck, we were thinking about getting some Harley Truck 20" wheels and putting them on the Lightning. Has anyone done/seen this?

Thanks for all the help.

Lightbulb READ FIRST... Ask questions after.

The first thing that you need to do is look at the BIG STICKY that is at the top of the posts section in the Lightning Forum. Its says something like "READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST IN THE LIGHTNING FORUM". This has links that will get you all of the info you need to make a informed decision.

Get the 2003, more sparkplug threads, no leaky intercooler, smells better, good looking lights, keypad entry, 380 hp vs 360 and don't forget the warranty.

Welcome 2003 Lightning

I hope your dad gets the 03. Better heads , steering etc.
If he gets the 99 he will still be happy.(If the intercooler fix has been done).
The Harley wheels are nice...Nice and HEAVY .
Good luck and welcome aboard

Let's see....a NEW 2003 L with all the bugs worked out or someone elses thrashed 1999. Does anyone really need help making this decision? Duh...should I date a fresh 21 year old or just settle for the used Grandmother.

DAMN, looks like Tim has a small army…

Get the 03. You should be able to get one (NEW) for around $27 - $29k. It also has the best looking rims…

Well, that all depends...
Here's Raquel Welch at age 63

That would work for me...

Especially with her net worth.

You can take her at 63 and I'll take her broke at 21.

A dealer new me has brand new 03s for around $24k. The 99s we are looking at are around $18k. Of course the 03 would be better to own but it is an extra $6k.
