I think that I posted it for you on the other board, but here it is.

Factory Tech Transmission Cooler Kit

Instructions

1) Locate the transmission line that returns fluid from the factory cooler to the transmission, on a 4R100 this is the line that goes to the rear of the transmission. The Factory Tech Cooler has 3/8 inverted flare fittings, and adaptors to allow connection of SAE-6 fittings. The line included have SAE-6 fittings on one end, and AN-6 fitting on the other, so it’s easy to get adaptors if the provided terminal endings are not the correct ones for your truck. The adaptors provided are the most common ones up to the current model year and will fit most trucks. If you need different fittings, they are sometimes available from auto parts stores, look for Hayden brand adaptors for transmission coolers. You can also get them from some places that sell plumbing supplies. Lastly, you can look in the yellow pages for your local Parker Hose and Fitting distributor, they have about anything you can think of.

2) On the factory cooler, remove the fitting that holds this line. On the end of the hoses included is an AN-6 adaptor that will screw in here on most models, but it is possible that you will need another adaptor, usually available from plumbing supplies. Screw in the cooler to AN-6 Adaptor here.

3) The line you have now disconnected on most models will be a 3/8 steel line with no flare or fitting on the end. If it has a flare, you can either get an adaptor for the flare (the other end is AN-6) or cut it for the included compression fitting.

4) Mount the Factory Tech Cooler to the engine radiator using the provided mounting hardware. It should be in front of the radiator, just above the factory cooler.

5) Attach the lines to the Factory Tech Cooler, and one to the factory cooler. The last line is connected to the return line using the compression fitting. For best results anchor this connection using a wire tie or clamp.

i have a 2001L, and had a flare fitting. i did NOT want to cut the line. here's what i posted to Gregg when i mounted it.

Very nice kit. went together, except i had a flare fitting on my factory cooler, so i had to get a 6AN male to 8AN female adapter. used the brackets supplied to mount just behind grill.

2001 Lightning, early build, 1J transmission (ugh). also, i was GOING to cut the hose off and do the barb fittings, but both of them did NOT fit the 6AN fitting on end of braided hoses. good thing i did not cut before checking. you may want to check those too.

this back from Gregg:
I buy the hardware kit as a set, I think I'll start throwing out hte barb fitting.

Results: trans stays a steady 150 degrees. on the SAME day i installed it, it was up to 165 - 170. it took a while to even get to 150 (i had to beat on it). i noticed in the summer when i would hit 180 after driving a while, shifts were hard, then soft, etc. this seems to level things out. can't wait to try in heat.

so, be careful. you won't lose much fluid. the AN fittings saved me, as i was GOING to cut the hose for the barbs, but the barbs were the wrong size.

What year model Lightning(s) will the cooler work with right out of the box? I have a cooler that I haven't installed yet, and I want to know what extra parts I'll need before taking everything apart.

Thanks. This will help the install go a lot easier.

A few notes on these.

First, I had one box of hoses made that the vendor made a mistake on, they had AN-6 on both ends, and they were supposed to be AN-6 on one end, SAE-6 on the other, I think I got all of them but one or two, I think Dave may have had one with the wrong hoses. (By the way, Dave, if you send me a reciept I'll pay for those fittings you had to buy)

The fittings supplied with the kit will fit almost all models up to the 2003 model year, I just don't know about the 03 and 04s yet, no one has told me they don't fit, though.

Tim @ Chickenears will soon have (or may have now) the instructions for both the cooler and the FTVB posted on his site.

If you do happen to need extra parts, putting the factory setup back to drive to hte hardware store will only take a few minutes, this is a really easy install.

Hope this helps,

G

Greg,

I have your cooler installed on my 03. I had to cut one of the fittings off my trans cooler line and use one that came with the kit. I don't know what you call it but it slides over the lcut ine and without a flare tightnens up when you tighten the fitting up. I use mine for track days and even in 90 degree heat during twenty minute sessions it will only get to 210-215. After eight sessions the fluid still smells great.....no burn smell at all.
