Nitrous comparison
Nitrous is Nitrous
Jet size is Jet Size
Both are excellent quality and very dependable.
My choice was Zex for ease of installation and looks
One nice little purple box, EVERYTHING HIDDEN INSIDE IT
3 wires to hook up, Power, Ground, and Trigger.....
Works Flawless and takes up to 1 full second off my Gasoline ET's
I'm into my second yr with it, trouble free......

Don't get me wrong, NX is an awesome set up, and now you can buy an adapter to trigger it like the Zex Kit (Zex is triggered off of a voltage reading it gets from the TPS), this is one of the 3 wire hooks ups I spoke of. I would personally never use a micro switch, or button again (been there done that) after using the flawless operation of a TPS triggered Nitrous System.
Both are excellent choices, it's your call...........
GOOD LUCK

Bro, I wouldn't run a stock L on 91 Octane, is that all you can get ??? if it is, man that sucks
I used 94 "only" til they took it away @ 6 months ago,
now it's ultra 93 Sunoco ONLY.
But yes you are correct "if" you keep the Nitrous Jets
reasonable ? What did you have in mind, and with what Mods ?
I run 4-6 lbs plus 75HP. That'll get you in the 11's,
but Filter Chip n 4lb Pulley along with 65-75 HP will also do it on a good day, and give you consistant 12.0 - 12.2's even on bad day, (thats a fairly safe set up, WITH THE RIGHT TUNE.

Crap, I was hoping 91 would be good enough.
I really wasn't planning any additional mods to the engine. Tractions bars, shocks, that sort've thing. And maybe, MAYBE, a 4lb lower.
But other then that, nothing. Nitrous, and an SCT9100. 91 is all I can get here. I was hoping for a 100 shot, but if that isn't safe, and 75 would be, that'd be fine. If 75 still isn't fine, well... Maybe I'll just scrap the nitrous idea.
But a safe tune with the SCT was a priority, since this heat and humidity in Hawaii is such a power-sucker, and I want to keep the truck as safe as possible.

WOW that sucks that 91 is all you got,
That ok if you stick to your original plan
If you DONT put a 4lb pulley on, then yes you can get away with
100 HP, The fact that your running that much will actually work in your favor if you do as the tuning directions say and take some timing out of it. I hope your talking about a WET system ?
With only 91 octane available, you may have prob's with a 4lb pulley anyway, even without the Nitrous. Lots of Bro's in CA have prob with 6lbs and 92 octane, so maybe Nitrous is your best answer

Whew, that's great news. It does suck I can only get 91, trust me, I know.
Yes, I'm talking about a wet kit... I was under the assumption that was all PSP and JL were selling. Am I wrong on that?
You've been a great help, by the way. Thanks alot.

Get a nitrous express kit. The quality of the lines, solenoids, fittings, nozzle, etc.. is unmatched by any maufacturer on the market. There is no comparison.
Nitrous express kits are fully rebuildable and user serviceable. You can rebuild the solenoids with new seals, clean them etc.. Try that with the Zex box.
Also it's not purple and homo

Cool, that's the one I was leaning towards. I was just a little iffy because I know next to nothing about nitrous, and PSP is having a special right now, which made it more tempting... I've just seen quite a few people running the Zex, so I thought there might be a big difference I didn't know about.
Also... Does the user set it to activate whenever he wants? IE, at 3000 RPMs only, or WOT only... Or is it always WOT, only?
And if it's user-selected, how do you change which way you want it to be, and which is preferable?
Thanks to both of you...

I know a few people who don't want to shoot out the hole so they arm the juice at the 60' mark and since they are already at WOT its a instant shot.
I'm thinking the output on my Wideband Commander will control it also. I havent checked it out yet, but I think the trigger is user adjustable ie: X amount of throttle @ x amount of RPM @ x amount of A/F. I think this would be my best option allowing me to shut the nitrous down if a lean condition exists.
I still like the Zex kit, plus I can tell the wife that all the purple is for looks cause black and purple look great together
Nitrous should never be activated below 3000rpm, which is where most engine damamage occurs when spraying. Think about this, when you flip the switch, the nitrous is spraying the same amount at 2500rpm as it sprays at 5000rpm. At 2500rpm each cylinder is getting double the amount of juice as each cylinder at 5000rpm. The problem, is at slow engine speed (2500rpm for example) the engine isn't moving fast enough to effectively inhale, combust, and exhaust the air/fuel charge plus the nitrous. Boom! This is when you have a nitrous backfire, which generally blows the entire intake system off the car, or blows the supercharger off the manifold and snaps the rotors. Engine speed is everything with nitrous.
As far as the other question, NX and Zex both make good entry level kits, although at the track you see more of the faster cars running NX than Zex. Either will work well on a Lightning.

the best way to setup nitrous is with a WOT switch and RPM window switch.
Spray between 300-5200 RPM.
A surge in the electrical system could acceidentally trigger a TPS activated switch, but a mechanical microswitch triggered by the throttle body arm would never be susceptible to that. The microswitch is harder to setup though.

I'm very intersted in this. How is the micro switch set up? (genericaly explain please)
And so the next question in my mind is at what point should the tranny shift? Currently I get the best ETs at 5400-5500 shifts. If I were to go to a NOS setup with a micro switch that shuts it off at say 5200 then what is the best shift rpms?
