Need help before I mod

Guys and gals maybe you can help me figure whats up with my truck before I start modding it. I have a used 2000 Lightning w/ stock setup from what I can tell. The only mod that I can tell has been done to the truck is it used to have a chip(cover has been removed from the computer). Now I have done a few things myself like boost-by-pass and cold air but that is it. What I am having trouble understanding is why I have so much boost. If I'm correct stock Lightnings should be around the 8lb mark for boost. My truck with the few mods list is pushing the 13lb mark. This scares me because I have been told that max boost for a stock bottom end is around 16lbs of boost. If I put a 4lb pully on I'm going to be around 17 or 18lbs. Do you think it is possible that there is some mod done by the previous owner I'm not seeing? I would ask the previuos owner if I could but I bought this truck through a dealership. What would be the "safe" setup for my truckThanks for any input you have.

is your upper or lower pulley a nice shiny aluminum? if so its already got a pulley on it, and then should also have a chip or your gonna have problems.

your boost guage could just be wrong too though.

Different from TurboChargers, As you MAY Know, superchargers are Mechanically driven by a Belt. So the It really depends on the size of the Pulleys (upper & lower) the boost amount it will produce.

Some circumstances like Intake & Bypass Mod, may create a slightly peak on boost but you definitively shouldnt be seeing 13 # of Boost on a Stock Setup.

I got a 4# pulley, Bypass Mod, Intake Filter, CHIP and I am seeing around 12-13 PSI.

Probably You have Pullies and you dont know.

Just my 2 Cents...

LOL no its not shiny. It has the stock cage and everything. I would say the boost guage could be wrong but my stock guage is also still hooked up and I'm pegging it out. Everyone who has rode in my truck that knows about lightnings say that it seems that something has been done to it. I mean the truck is screaming and my blower is super load. Loader than most. You think maybe the blower has been ported?

I wish I had some 1/4 mile times maybe by my run times I could at least get some kind of idea where I'm at. Maybe I'll hit up test and tune this week and see what i run then post that and see what you guys can come up with.

So you have a 2nd boost gauge hooked up? Did you install it or did it come from the dealer like that?

I would think an installation of another boost gauge would indicate some pulley work.

I installed it cause I was already pegging the stock guage and wanted to know what I was pulling.

I know this sounds funny. I know for a fact that I don't have a 4lb pulley and even if I did I would need a chip reprogrammed for that and I have NO chip. I just don't understand it. Thanks for the input guys

I know a lot of people running 4 pounders and doesnt have a chip

its recommended to use a chip but people have 4#'s without chip

could be your case....

I dont know

my other 2 cents

PD. this message parts from the premise of saying that you know for fact because you got no chip.

just measure the diameter of both the upper and lower pullies. that will definately tell you something. the pully could be a larger lower that is caged, i know JDM sells caged lowers.
