Personally I'd take it to a different dealership.
Otherwise.. just scan it and then post the codes here or at www.nloc.net (so we can stop weeding through all the pointless bickering)

Father in law just called me, gave me some more information. He said the code, or a least the latest one, is P1450. The second truck has been in the shop once and on his way home the light came on a gain. He has an appoitment Monday to take the truck in again and he said it sounds like they are planning on putting a new computer in it. I do not know if it was on this truck or the first one but he has a whole list of items that have been replaced. Gas cap, fuel tank sensor, some type of vacuum canister or sensor, ran some type of jumper wires from the front to the back ect.
I'll let you know what else he finds out on Monday.
Thanks for the help.

This situation with (2) L's seems quite odd. IF the dealer has replaced the "gas cap, fuel tank sensor, some type of vacuum canister or sensor, ran some type of jumper wires from the front to the back ect"....this seems that they are merely shooting through a collapsed straw...seldom do numerous electromechanical parts go bad at the same time unless there has been a electrical spike or short across that specific network....It sounds like the dealer has no idea what to troubleshoot...just keep on replacing parts till it works...there are some problems that "will not" show up on ford diagnostics or throw an error code (such as my previously posted rough idle issues)....the last time I went to AutoZone, they told me they could not perform any code pull UNLESS my check engine light was on...I suggest another dealer that perhaps has a better understanding of diagnostics....
good luck ..

I'd agree with Georgia Moon. There is something fishy if all these parts have been replaced and the problem is still there. One of their big stabs at it was "change trucks"????????? Tell him to get a second opinion, warantee is honored by all dealers. Make sure he picks a reputable SVT authorized dealer.
When I was driving my L home from the dealer I got on it once or twice. On the second time the truck momentarily sputtered. The SES light came on. Got home and thanks to this board unplugged the battery for 15 minutes and code gone.
Now if that doesn't work for your inlaw then tell him to stop putting moonshine in his tank. Just because it worked for the Jed Clampetts doesn't mean it will work for him.

Thanks all.
Some of these newer computers make life easier and some just make it harder. I had problems with my wife's jeep going into closed loop. As you said, the dealer started grasping at straws in a hope to find the problem. Replaced O2 Sensor, even though I told them I did the same thing a week ealier, tried all kinds of fixes. What it turned out to be was the computer. I bought the Jeep used and it appears someone went to a junk yard and pulled out the first computer they found in a Jeep. Turns out the puter was for a 6cyl not a V8. Once they replaced the computer it ran much better, didn't surge, got better miles per gallon, but you know what...it still won't go into closed loop no matter what I do or replace. Figure some things are just meant to stay broken.
In-law told me when he takes it in Monday they are planning a computer switch. He is afraid they have just programmed a computer to not turn on a light based on a certain code or something. I told him to have them trip the light based on the last code the old computer had and then reset it before he goes. This will hopefully give him peace of mind that if the light doesn't come on anymore it is because it is actually fixed. I don't think they would actually do something like this but he's a little peranoid now.
I'll keep ya all posted.

Thought I would bring some closure to this one.
Father-in-law got the truck back from the dealer last week with a new computer installed by one of the performance techs from Detroit. It has been over a week now and the light has stayed off. May not be a ford fan but I gotta hand it to the dealer they got it fixed. They replaced a truck, all kinds of parts and finally a computer even brought a tech in from the performance group to get the job done. They did what was required to fix the problem and make Ray happy. Factory guys turned me around on Ford.
All, thanks for your comments and suggestions.
Later,
Mike
