Unhappy Engine light on 2004 Lightning

As you can see I am a Mopar man myself, not here to bash anyone, just want to help out my father-in-law.

He traded his 02 ltng in for a 04. The first one he got had less than 400 miles on it when the engine light came on. He took it to the dealer and it was in and out of the shop several times and always came back on before he got home. The dealership got the factory involved and they were not able to help either. They finally ordered him a new one. This time he had less that 300 miles on it and the same thing is happening. He has put no aftermarket items on them, bearly even put gas in it.

Has anyone else seen the problem? He is ready to get rid of it but I told him I would find a ford message board to see if anyone had any ideas. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks.

Go to Autozone and have the code read when the light comes on again. Then come back and tell us what the code is.

the check engine light could be on for a few hundred different reasons. could be as simple as the gas cap isn't screwed on tight.

without a code you are drawing straws in the dark or something

later,
chris

F-you, I could care less if you beleave me or not. Call Rusty Eck Ford in Wichita Kansas. Obviously the ford dealer is reading some type of code, think they have it fixed and it is not. They went through 6 different times on this truck and it never was fixed. They called the factory and tried everything and it still did not work. He threatened to use the lemon law to get his money back so the factory said to send the truck back to them and they got him a new one. It is not like it was a twenty thousand mile truck they can't resale as new if they find out what the problem is. Their options were to refund him his money or get a new truck. If you think I'm full of it don't reply, I am looking for real help for him. I would rather he sell the thing and get something that works but he wants to keep it and I want to help him if that is what he wants. He had no problems with his O2 and the dealer is telling him he is the only one that has had this type of problem. Posted here to see if someone else was having the same problem and maybe getting the same run around. If someone has seen the same problem please reply, otherwise keep you accusations to yourself!!!!

Sorry Superfords, it was not directed to the first two posts, you were trying, it was posted to respond to the last two replies. I'm not saying Mopar is better that Ford, to each his own, for every true story I give you about a POS Ford, I am sure there is an equally true story about a POS Dodge. Not wanting a pissing match, want to help the father in law out.

I usually post to Moparts. We may give some Ford/Chebby guys a hard time when they come it but we also try to help where we can. I came to a board I thought would have some experts or maybe some factory technicians, come on guys, don't let me down, have a little deplomacy.

That is probably your best bet for getting some help here from some of the experts. As I think Superfords stated there are hundreds of codes so it would be hard even for an expert like Superfords to assist you without something to go by.

Autozone will read the code for free, because they will want to try and sale you something, but anyway it’s free and a good starting point. You could also try another dealer for another opinion. It could be the dealer your going to just doesn’t have someone knowledgeable enough to troubleshoot the problem correctly.

I know this post is of no help technically speaking just a suggestion to perhaps make it easier for you to possible find a solution to your father-in-laws dilemma…

I will try and talk to Ray tomorrow to see if they ever told him what the code was. From the way he talked it was not the same thing everytime. I'll check with him and see, if he doesn't know I'll have him ask or take it to the zone to have them do it. I've got a code reader for my dodge but of course not for his, he is the kinda guy that can fix old cars but doesn't care to mess with computers, he pays for the warranty and let's dealer worry about it.

Thanks for the reply. I should have asked him this from the start.

Engine light

Seems odd that he has the same problem with two different trucks. Would using 87 octane gas cause an engine light? Flooring it when he is starting it up? Could it be something in the way he is driving it?

Would not suprise me at all if it was in the way he drove. One of the other problems with the second truck was the factory bed rails popping up on the passenger side after he "got it up past 110mph". He had it over 110mph with 300 miles on it, he probably could have gave it a little more break-in time.

I think he is a premium only guy but I'll ask him about the 87 octane, prices of gas these days maybe he wanted to save money.

Ya know max, if you don't have anything intelligent to say stay out of my post. I'd say you need to go get fixed but stupid can't be fixed. I feel sorry for your parents.

I can understand why you have sex on the mind though, you drive a ford, you must be used to taking it up the ***.

Sorry to the rest of you ford guys, I didn't want to bash but Max-imum stupidity here left me no alternative. I know he can't be the spokesman for your group so I will apologize for that outburst to all ford drivers but him.
