I'm in the dog house.

This morning my fiance, Kelly, asked to borrow the truck. Today I'm off and she is not. I usually rotate the vehicles out to help with maitnance and wear. She drives a 96 v6 camaro with 140,000 miles on it. Parts are cheap, getting things fixed are cheap... let's face it...it's the work horse with that many miles and those things considered. Usually she drives the truck when we both goto work because she doesn't go as far.
When she asked today I told her no :o. I wasn't going to work today and she was. I told her my reasoning behind it was that it was less chance for the truck to get damaged, keyed, dented, broken into etc. She retorts with, "So it's ok for my car to get hurt?!" . I felt like an *** and tryed to tell her to go ahead and take it. I think since the weather is nice she just wants to drive something somewhat cool to her....(shes a vette girl guys )
Other things I consider are these factors:
1. She is a supervisor now working with young college kids. If she has to send one home I think the L makes a perfect target for vandalism.

2. Her building is in a rough neighborhood where high theft is. I have a radar detector that I have positioned just right with wires ran and tucked away and I don't want to keep taking it out so it doesn't wet a thief's thirst. There is no security, or no way of knowing if somebody tampers with it.

3. Parking lot is gravel. More likely to get hit (I think) because lack of order of parking and moving of vehicles.

Where I work I have the luxury of having a camera sit on top of it recording. I work with some pretty rough people, but I can prosecute if something happens to it. I just wanted to get some of your guys oppinions of what you think about this. Should I have let her borrow the L right when she asked for it? What would you guys have done in my shoes?

I'm already divorced once, so I won't pretend to know anything that you don't already know.

You should have let her take the truck. I can totally understand not wanting your truck to get vandalized, broken into, stolen, etc. But, you do have insurance, don't you? I've been there before with a similar kind of story, and it only added to the problems we had.

My .02!!

It's just a truck, let her take it.

If she works in a bad part of town, maybe she should always drive the Lightning so she can make a fast getaway in case of trouble.

You should be more worried about her and your relationship, than a truck that is easily fixed or replaced.

I can see where you’re coming from. That’s why when I “was” married I had my vehicle and she had hers. Main reason is she was a slob with her vehicle, all kinds of chit inside it and thought of it as just something to get from point A to point B.

My thought is, though it’s not the greatest investment it is an investment so I take great pride in keeping my vehicles clean inside and out and trying my best to keep it out of “ding land” when going somewhere.

There was one time I remember very fondly and always puts a big smile on my face every damn time I think about it. Was a situation with the X when she was whining about sometimes I care more about the truck then her (wasn’t a L at the time) and that I need to make a choice between her and the truck…

I told her I would think about it while I washed the truck…

So two possible answers to your dilemma, one let her use the truck when she wants or get her another vehicle, new or newer so that is “her” vehicle and your truck is “your” vehicle. Could try using gold and things that sparkle to keep her at bay as well…

NateTrun2, I totally know how you feel. When I had just got the truck and only had it a day my wife, who well is not the best driver...wanted to go the MALL with her friend that had just come over and take the L. All I could think of was all the cars that were going to be around her and all the crazy women drivers that are already there. I let her take it but I told her to park next to know one all that crap, I was scared untill she pulled up.

You guys are right. Thanx , I went to her work and exchanged cars with her. I told her I was going to let her drive it the most , just wanted to get it washed so i could present it to her. So, I will just let her drive it till her little hearts content...and yes she keeps her car looking like a 1924 **** house. I'm out of the dog house.

do what I do.
NEVER LET HER DRIVE!!!!

infact, when she rides with you drive aggressively, taking off fast, barking 2nd. Heck she never wants a ride in the thing anymore.

(thank you Mr. Gregg Evans)
the FTVB is the one mod that she can't stand and doesn't want to drive the truck

No way....she has her own car. Especially if you were home from work, the truck should be there for your enjoyment. It is your truck right? No one drives my truck but me........NO ONE!!! My truck sits directly in front of me while I am at work and I can see it the whole time. Even under those circumstances, I am constantly havin to set off the panic alarm to get people off of it. Also, as customers of my job pull up to take out food, I repeatedly see most of them get within 2.5 inches of the front bumper and one idiot even hit it with her bicycle. And this all happens while I am watching it!!!!!! Imagine what you don't see. If she has such a problem driving her own car, sell it and have her split the Lightning payments with you.
