predator custom tune ?

Just throwing out a question regarding the Predator custom tunes for the Lightnings..........

I am wondering if some of the "problems" with these tunes could be a result of the upload/download that is done between the tuners and the end user. I ask this question because I have requested updates to some of my software here, (snap-on, alldata) in the same manner but, have been told they are concerned of the integrity of the files being sent. I am NOT a computer expert by any means but I am curious about the chance of possible integrity problems...... or am I getting a B.S. line from these sources? Thanks

I find it "interesting" that both of Amazons predator tuned Lightnings have blown up in the past two weeks. I am in
no way flaming Amazon, but I am questioning the Predator.
I will stick with Superchips, we all know that they have proven
themselves.

When the Predators first came out, we found that in e-mailing UNzipped files, some mail services were messing with the files and screwing them up. Since then, we zip all custom tunes sent to the customer, and we stress that the customer do the same when sending us their base file. The ONLY time I ever have problems with someone's file, is if they haven't sent it to me zipped.

Sal -

Should I ZIP my file up and resend it to you?

Doesn't the file have some kind of sumcheck or other data integrity check (which is hopefully used by the Predator)?

Are these files plain text or are they binary? (in other words can someone just open them up on a computer in notepad or the like and read them?)

they are binary... not legible unless you have the software to program/read the file.

Or a hex editor

Well if it's binary I can't see an email server (exchange, sendmail, lotus etc...) messing with it at all.

Thanks for the replies... it makes sense....

Sal,
If a customer wanted, could the unit be sent back to you with their "upload" and you do your "custom tune" ? I understand this kind of defeats some of the advantages of the Predator but would this be a problem? Thanks

Yep that's fine. I had a local customer drop his Predator off last week for me to make his custom tune and upload back into it for him to pick up.
