I think they use the chip specific to your vehicle in the remote start, therefore you can start it if your good at what you do(being a low-life p.o.s.)...The chip isn't in the remote start, but in the column or something.....

Went to Curcuit City today and checked out the Audiovox and the Viper set up. I think that I'm going to go w/ the Audiovox because it's basically the same as the viper one but it comes w/ another key pad as the viper doesn't. I also like the idea of it paging you if your alarm goes off. They also said it would it only cost another $40 to have the window feature that I also like ....

Yep and the accessories work just fine.

The chip in the key and the chip reader in the column are dis-abled, but the truck cannot be started unless the truck is unlocked with the remote.
Passive arming of the alarm(yea, I got that too) qualifies you for an insurance break, so it kinda pays for itself over time.

Mine wont start if it sits in the sun. Never took it back, but it really bothers me. It will just crank and not start. Put the key in and she fires right up. Its a "code alarm" and I like it other than that. Pretty old school, no display or anything, but I can speak into it "kit, I'm in trouble, get here fast!" and she picks me up right away.

Had the DEI Valet 554T installed in mine and my buddies truck. It has the remote start and alarm all in one. The accessories (heater, radio, wipers etc)all do work with it when its running. Added the 530T modules and can roll/unroll my windows as well as added a glass break detector for the cap. The aux channel controls the windows.

Comes with 2 remotes- 1 LCD screen one with backlight and all the cool stuff and 1-plain remote for remore start/ arm disarm etc.

There is no "Key" in the ignition to start it. It uses a PATS bypass module that gets wired into the alarm and uses a small glass module that will send the key signal just for that start cycle. Once its started truck will run till timer mode shuts it down, you shut it down, put key in and drive away or hit the brake pedal without key in ignition. You can check interior temp, what zones are armed/disarmed and etc with the 2 way remote. Great remote distance/range with the antenna that comes with it.

Pretty cool system and couldnt beat the install price for over 4 hrs of install time by a master installer (not me though)

remote start

I have the ford gold star alarm/remote start in my L. It works great in these NewEngland winters and does not effect the warranty and can be serviced at ford if necessary. The only accessories that work while the remote start is activated is the heat/AC (no radio etc...). The truck will shut down if the brake pedal is pressed without the key in the ignition. Good luck!!!My flamed 01 Lightning

Hey rav1972 I have the Viper on mine and I install them. It sounds like someone goofed in the install. The A/C should work fine. Its all up to the installer, the radio can come on if its wired that way. Yours just needs a little attention, its an easy fix.

How would you say this system compares to the audiovox one, because the audiovox one seems to have all those features too and they have it a curcuit city which is good for me because they will be installing it and if something goes bad I can have it fixed there, I don't think anyone in town carries the DEI Valet 554T.

I looked at them both and then the warranties and etc and went with the DEI system. My neighbors best friend is a master installer for a local High End home theater and automotive audio/security place. He also highly recommended the DEI over the others as far as his personal dealings over the last 10 yrs with all brands. I personally cant say if one is better or worse than the other. Since he is highly recommended around here for his knowledge and experience I went with his recommendation. Since they sell/service the DEI line I am covered under the DEI warranty for purchase and install and that was another factor in my decision as you also mentioned.

I do know he was moving pretty fast on the install while I was there and it took about 4 hrs to do it. He has all the wires hidden away in loom or in the factory harness assemblies so you cant tell its there. Install is the most important part of it as its getting into some of your important wiring. Check around and see what people are saying about the installers at Circuit City and if they are happy with their work.

Sorry I couldnt be more help......

Thanks bro, good info indeed. If I do end up getting the kit from Curcuit City I will make sure they do a clean install...

I use the Compustar in my truck. I have it set up so that the heater and A/C work in start mode, but all other accessories do not work until key is inserted and turned to the "on" position. Has been in the truck for the last two years and to date no difficulties.

The range is fantastic. I even started it from a landing plane one time. Truck was in the parkade and as I was landing I figured what the heck...go figure, it paged me back and my baby was all warm for me when I got to it. In fairness though, I have tried since and it has not worked again. The stars must have been alighed that day or something.
