Anyone have remote start

I think this is going to be my next mod, it would help me a lot for when I go to work and stuff because I always like to let the L warm up for a a minute or two before I leave, this way I wouln't even have to go to my garage and plus I just think it's cool, lol. Anyone have this, which brand did they use and how do they like it. Also can't you get it to lower your windows to from the same switch. Thanks

I have the clifford RS3. I like it allot and havent had any problems with it so far. You can add modules to do extra functions like rolling the windows up/down etc...

here is my remote(its backlight orange)

I have the viper with the lcd remote. I think remote start is ok, not all that. I originally thought it would be great to turn on the defroster in the winter before work and the ac in the summer after work. Just set the controls when you get out of the truck and presto. Unfortunatly though none of the accessories work when the remote start is utilized. the truck starts and idles thats it.

now is because of the brand you have or what, cause I don't want to start the truck, I want to be able to have the A/C on and I would like to get one that I can lower the windows on too. I saw a guy a while ago do that on his truck and I really liked the idea.

what about the Ford Gold alarm/remote start set up, anyone know if that one is good. I got about $500 to play with so I want the best I cant get (the L deserves no less, lol)

I had the Bulldog remote start. It worked great and I hooked it up myself. It was about $100 bucks. I took it out a little bit ago because I stopped driving my L in the winter. ANyway, it was a good remote start.

Valet is the brand...auto start. remote display, all the bells and whistles. start from up to a mile, start truck and will run heat or ac depending on what you shut the truck off with . Give a temp reading in the cab....real pimp set up ...works like a charm

I have Audiovox Prestige (sells at Circuit City)... I was also considering the Viper but chose the Prestige because the LCD remote was actually smaller and it had backlit display, unlike the Viper. Remote starts just idles the truck, no accessories are accessible (same as the Viper). I'm sure it can be changed somehow thou... I also know you can operate the windows from the remote, but it needs a seperate module to be able to do that. The alarm pages you back if the siren goes off... the range is not super good, half a block with the buildings, may be two blocks direct site.

EDIT: I have to make a correction... accessories (i.e. HEATER and A/C) DO work on Audiovox... the wipers don't work, which made me think accessories are not operatable.

I was going to have one installed, until I was talking to an Electrian at work. He has a F250 DuperDuty, I know not a Lightning, but he LOVED his until it went bad. The truck wouldn't start even with his key. He had to have the truck towed to the shop and have it fixed or removed. He chose the removal route.
Never asked him what brand he had.

Iam not saying this happens to everyone that goes bad, but it happened to him. And with my chitty luck, Iam sure it would happen to me too.

I know, everyone who has one loves it.
His problem would probably not appear in 100 yrs, but it did happen.
Just passing along what happened to him

Good Luck with yours, what ever brand you choose

I have the Audiovox also, and mine works just fine, including the
accessories. Maybe they wired yours up wrong or something,
cause the whole purpose was to have the truick warm or cool
without having to leave my snug little love-nest. <grin>

I then added the Vroom Vroom channel on one of the
additional channels.

We did have to wire in a relay to stop the stupid ECM from polling the
dome light, which caused false alarms. There is a TCB out on the Audiovox site about that one.

Best of luck whatever you choose. It's a neat mod.

Cliff

Yes... I realized that earlier today when I was showing my alarm to a friend. I think the wipers don't work, which made me think, accessories are not operatable. So I added an EDIT to my message above. Thanx.

Yeah thats wierd man, I have the Viper and my heater and ac work fine. It turns the car on just like you would start it with a key...there really isnt a difference. I think you may have to take it back to get checked out....

btw I love mine but I always forget to turn the heat on high the night before

I think you can steal the remote start trucks because it defeats the purpose of the chip in the key. Not 100% sure but it's something to look into.

i thought that as soon as you hit the brake pedal without the key in the ignition it shuts off. Is that true?
