My L vs a c5
more than likely if the guy has just headers and u told him what u have and he still wants to race........either you are going to smoke him bad and take his money or he wasnt telling u the truth. or he might be a ****y c5 owner. Just hope he doesnt have a cam. Its a totally different animal then.
I know that feeling you got man. I got the same problem with a ****y vette owner, only he owns the infamous ZO6 not the reg C5. With your mods you should be able to take out that C5 without much trouble as long as your not going top end.
Its a smart thing to do when racing for money to say you wanna see eachothers cars, some guys go for it, some dont. but if your worried your always better off asking. Good Luck and show him what its like when Lightning Strikes !

As a Vette owner, with heavy mods to boot. I find it strange that someone would go the the expense and general PIA to put LT's on Vette with no other mods. I would be careful. Hell, my vert goes 12.80's @110 with CAI, mild TC and 3.42's.

My two brothers have corvettes. One is a 2002 vert auto. The other is a 2001 6spd coupe. Ive raced both of them SEVERAL SEVERAL times. A countless number of times...even with different drivers. Those c5's, especially 6spd are really hard to launch. You either burn out, or bog down nasty. 90% of the time, I kill on the launch. Probably by 1 full trucklenght. I keep it there, till about 70-80 mph when hes next to me...then easily just pulls by and is gone. Lets not forget, im stock, with just boost bypass. Ive got my launching down pretty good too. As long as you dont burn through first...ull jump on his a$s HARD. With a 6lb, I cant imagine him even catching up. And even if he does, MAYBE after 120mph or so. 6lbers pull like no tomorrow. Id go for it. Check his car out thoroughly though before u race, dont be stoopid. And dont even bother doing ANYTHING from a roll, ull just cry.
The only thing that would scare me about runnin him if i was u. Is that he wants to go for money and not just 50 bucks 500 so right there he feels pretty confident he is going to beat u. But then again he might be like all the other retards and think these trucks are slow hahah. Well if the only mods that he has is full exhaust ur most likely going to smoke him.
Just an FYI: my friend has a camaro SS that is stroked. Totally, totally stock looking..stock exhaust, wheels, engine looks bone stock....auto tranny, etc....he runs 11.7's on street tires, no problem. He walked a modded '03 cobra that runs 12.3's by 4 car lengths 0 to 80mph. Your guy may just have heads and a cam and f-bodys will be in the low 12's with just those mods and an intake. And the engine would look completely stock. Good luck.

My buddy has an 01 C-5 vert. with CAI, LT's and the Corsa Indy exhaust. He recently had it dyno tuned. I believe the vette guys call it the LS1 edit. After the tune he was at 335RWHP and 343RWT. Pretty close to what a stock Z06 makes! His vette hauls ***! Point is if the guy you want to race has had this done to his you won't be able to detect it. With your mods I still think the "L" has a good chance of winning in the Quarter Mile. Let us know how it turns out.
I agree. If this guy has had head work /cams it could be "undetectable" to the untrained eye. My advice is listen closely to that exhaust note, it will usually be a dead giveaway for heads & cams.
The guy in the Vette is lying his *** off.
What kind of idiot start his performace mods w/ long-tube headers?
He has to be running somesort of air-intake, K&N at the very least.
I wouldn't doubt there's a Hypertech program involved as well.
I own a C-5 as well. A stocker will run a low-mid 13 sec.
Long-tubes won't shave a second off that time.
Race the guy, but not for $

If your nervous, you will probably loose anyway no matter how much power you make. Don`t be nervous. You must get him off the line, so do what ever it takes to get your launch right. Also do anything you can to get an extra edge like put new plugs and/or fuel filter in.
Just remember, don`t be nervous
and also think, $500
