Cool Dyno results after built engine install

Everyone,

Well, I spent the last month putting some break-in miles (850) on my built engine install. This weekend, I spent some time at JDM getting my re-tune.

Let me preface the dyno results by listing mods:

JDM Shortblock
JDM ported heads
Stage 2 cams
KB
In-Tank 255's
50# injectors
4# lower
.310 reichart upper (Street tune)
.300 reichart upper (Race Tune)
All the other bolt ons apply...
Stock tranny
Stock 90mm MAF

Following is the street tune, we saw 15psi on the autometer

And the race tune, which we saw just over 16psi

All in all I am very happy with these #'s!!!

A few more things to finish up, and then maybe we will crank it up to 20 psi and see what happens.

As a note, the first KB suffered Nose Cone failure while putting those 800 break-in miles on.

A big thanks to everyone at JDM for helping me out and putting up with my nit-picking.

Rock on.....

Awesome. Looks like those heads and cams are worth a good 50+ RWHP & TQ. Enjoy it and let us know how it fares at the track.

Excellent Brian

But I have to be honest, those KB's perform, but the failure's are something that needs to be addressed. And if you question KB, they claim there are no problems
Anyway a 3K $ blower is not in my future........

Good luck with the new motor

Everyone,

Thanks for the positive feedback. Its a great feeling to be cruising around with an extra 140+ hp since my last dyno.

Gator,

I'm with you. I know there have been more than just mine let go. And mine didn't have 1 dyno or 1/4 mile run on it during that 800 miles. As a matter of fact, per Jims request, I kept it under 10 psi during break-in. Theres no doubt the KB cranks out some power, but like you said, there have definitely been some failures (unlike what is posted on the KB site). Its funny, KB could have a great product if they can take care of these little problems. If they don't take care of the little problems, they will just be an average product IMHO.

All in all, I am going to see where that 4# lower can get me this year. I am just looking forward to getting back out and racing again!!

yes, 13.5:1 at 5500 rpm isn't my idea of a good a/f ratio.

How much $$ for all that? Would a 150 shot have the same results as the KB? I want to do a built motor, but was thinking of going with some juice instead of another s/c.

Tallimeca,

You are correct that #2 shows a bit lean. That run was done totally cool. Per Jim, the air/fuel will read a bit leaner until the A/F sensor warms up.

Maybe he can jump in here with some info as I am not well-versed in dyno's....

later
