A friend of mine has a 95 gen 1 just like yours. He is holding onto the gen1 and passing on the gen 2 like mine, till the gen 3 comes out. He wants to get the gen III Lightning. I dont blame him it will be a big step up from his lightning, and my lightning combined! It'll be a nice truck, it's just going to cost some big bucks... If I were you, I'd hold onto the 95 as long as you can. Unless you can get a deal on a 99-2000, your still looking at around 17-19k right? If you wanna spend that, you know how much fun they are, and how quick they can go with such little mods. It's just up to you to decide what you want to do...
The choice is yours, good luck.
Shane

If you want to go fast, the Gen1 will get you there cheaper. You already own the truck, and $3K will take you very far in it.

Other than that, it's a question of taste. They are two completely different beasts in driveability, handling, and comfort. I've driven both, and choose the Gen1, but that's just me.

What the wise Gator said. Though the second option is better.

Either way, don't get rid of that truck!

It's funny...

Are they saying that it's cheaper/faster to go buy a 20-25,000 dollar truck and add mods to it, then it is to actually put that 25-30k into a Gen 1?

You could go INSANELY fast for 25 grand into a Gen 1..

I don't see why a good 10 second time slip would even be remotely hard with that kinda cash, as long as you did the work yourself.

It just amazes me that they think the Gen 2's are a easier platform to mod than the Gen 1's... HELLO!! ALMOST EVERYTHING FROM A MUSTANG FITS!! HELLO!!!!!!

Slap a good blower onto it(figure 4-4500 for a Novi 2000 kit from Dave), put on a good set of heads($1500), buy a Monsterbox($2400), put a kick butt fuel system in it($1000-1500), exhaust($1000), and you'd be running 11's... Then do what Jerry did and throw in a awesome shortblock($5000?) and pump up the boost..

$4500
$1500
$2400
$700(convertor)
$1500
$1000

There's $11600

Plus $5000 for the shortblock and you're at $15600.. Add in another 2 grand for odds and ends, $17600

Walla, a Gen 1 that'll run circles around any Gen 2 and look better to boot... I'm sure I'm missing some stuff, but you get the general idea...

I say keep the gen 1. Take the money, fly to California and I'll take you to GOLD CLUB CENTERFOLDS for the most unbelievabke lap dance you've ever had. I've been told I'm pretty fun to hang out with too, of course that's coming from my mom. LOL

Thank you everyone for your advice.
I think I have a pretty good idea now of what I'm gonna do.

I'll probably be out in CA this year sometime visiting my sister... So I'll remember that.
