Different strokes for different folks. There are people out there who want a rough riding, huge engine vehicle with a stick shift. To them, that is the epitome of a performance vehicle. Automatics are for sissies, superchargers are for the lazy, and rounded corners are for girls. Someone who thinks like that would rather have an SRT-10. Someone who doesn't would like the Lightning. Just like there are people who prefer Gen1s, for their blocky body design and rough-running drivetrains.

Either way, the SRT is faster

I was seriously thinking about buying an SRT10... I thought it would be cool. Then I realized that I IF I could get it for MSRP I would be paying 46K or more ( need the navigation system ) for a pickup truck that really isnt a truck. You CANT tow with it and with 900lb payload - that means me a tank of gas and a load of groceries is all it can carry..

Someone has to ask Why dod Dodge NOT recommend towing with it ? And Why is there no 7/70 wtty .... I bet the reasons are connected....

Anyway - I cant justify 50 grand after TT&L for a truck that cant pull my boat.....

Lets assume a 25 gallon gas tank - 8lbs per gallon = 200 lbs

that leaves 700

I weight 250

that leaves 450 -

Passenger - Stereo equipt, oil and tonneau cover = lets say 250+

That leaves 200 lbs for groceries.... Or 2 bags of top soil from Home Depot

Thats pretty sad for a 45k pickup.

Thumbs up

Autoweek recently reviewed the Ram SRT-10 and this is what one editor had to say:

"ROCA: Please. $50,000 for a two-seat truck that roars and bounces over the road like it’s coming apart at the seams? I will pass. This truck is no competition for what seems to me like a way more refined, way more enjoyable to drive (and look at) Lightning. Sure, it’s got that get-the-hell-out-of-my-way grille, great, for those who get off on intimidating people in mere cars, but it feels too big, too old tech, like the Viper, to get my vote. The brakes were so touchy it was scary to tap them, thinking the guy behind me would ram under the bed and get decapitated. I’ll take the SVT Lightning for $15,000 less and drive a cool truck that any respectable Teamster will envy and keep my dignity."

Geez, I was just joking.

PS- Gas only weighs about 6.5 lb.s per gallon.

I wouldn't be to concerned about the payload rating anyways. The Lightning was only rated at 800 lbs. up until 2003, but most of those are reduced because the owners have lowered the rear.

and to think I put 20 95lb bags of concrete in the back of my 01 Lightning. Sure it squat in the ***, but the real pain was unloading the truck and carring the bags downstairs to the basement

Great point. Payload ratings are usually very conservative and for short trips they can easily be exceeded if necessary. It just seems to many Lightning owners are trying to find every little fault with the Dodge and not accept it for what it is. Just like a Lightning, it's not intended to appeal to the masses. Choices in cars/trucks is what makes the automobile industry great. Do we want to go back to the early days of Ford, when you could have any color you wanted, as long as it was Black?lol

By the way Gator, what are you building with all that concrete?
