2003- year in review

Well the year is almost up and racing around these parts is just about done.

What a year 2003 has been for me personally. Most importantly I got married to a Beautiful woman that I probaly do not deserve. She loves racing and even loves to race her 03 Cobra Convert. and I get to cruise in it whenever I want.

Spent a lot of money this year on the L (more then I would like to admit) but I feel it was well worth it (still cheaper then a shrink) and I had a lot of fun. Won a few trophies and won a FFW event(the racer in me is most proud of that).
Banged out a 10 second and run still drove the L to work the following day.
Saw and met a lot of great people at the FFW events and Cecil events.

Looking forward to what 2004 has in store.

Lets hear some 03 stories and some pics of events and stuff.

VINNIE

Got me an awesome new lady

Brought her to WFC6 and met some sweet Lightning owners (even bought a XXL shirt under Brooks' nose)

And of course, got a little modding done

All in all a VERY good year.

Sure Vin no mention of me in your year end review Screw you.

Us poor people had a pretty good year too, I opened the season with 2 great numbers (12.0's), my personal best "at the time". Did finally get to make a couple of L events, Cecil + Eng Town/JDM Day. I also got to meet some great Lightning/Ford People, made some new friends, met up with some old, and enjoyed racing more than ever before.

It wasn't a big mod yr for me unfortunatly, but it was an extremly productive test and tune season. You sometimes have to run slower before you can run faster and I did that too. (I don't talk or post about that much, hmm wonder why ?, hehehehe)
So I did get some nice runs in at my Local Track throughout the season, got to test a few diff programs, and yes once again found it's all about hi timing for my Lightning. So after 9 test runs, and lots of talking to the man, one JLP reburn tweaked me right to where I needed to be. My L continue's to run Flawlessly off and on the Juice, and with either my 16 or 18 degree timing programs, and yes both awesome on pump gas.

So to sum it up, now I got an easy 12 sec street L "off the Juice" (right where I wanted to be) and I got to close the season with my lifetime goal, and ran an 11.81@113.98 MPH on the Juice. Thats been my goal since day one, it's been tons of fun hitting it, and now that I'm here I don't know where to go from here???
It's only cost me a thousand or two to take the first 2 seconds off, but unfortunatly it'll cost me 10-15K to take 1 more off it now.

I will of course open up @ Cecil if all goes well, and try and run
an 11.5 on the stock Motor, after that I think my Stock Block days are numbered and I need to start saving because it surly aint gonna last til the next Gen of L's come out

GREAT YEAR, GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT FUN, MORE TO COME........

Well, I haven't had Vinnie's fortune, still searching for that special lady, but I have met a great group of guys/gals on this sight. In addition a great group of tuners.

Bought my L in June, went mod crazy all in preparation for my first run in 2004. CAN'T WAIT!!!

So hopefully I will have some great first "times" to share with the clan! boy that would be sweet to have a first run in the 11's!

All in all it has been a tremendous six months owning my L - she just keeps on giving and the excitement keeps building. Almost complete on my frame up restore of the "66 Mustang Fastback, my other baby that I will compete with, "show" that is in 2004.

Oh Ya, how could I forget, became incorporated on Aug. 5 - the corp is under my name and the business is "Renovation by Design" - that is a big personal accomplishment.

A big thanks to Rob_02 for introducing me to this awesome group on f-150 and a big Happy Holidays to everyone (an a safe one)!

D-Day

My Year in review:

Jan. 30th - Picked up my brand new 2003 Ford Lightning.

Feb. 2nd - Took the Lightning to the track for the first time, 400 miles on the odometer. Bone stock it runs a 13.55 @ 102 - 1.97- 60'

March 30th - Had the truck exactly 2 months and run my first 12 sec. run. 12.96 @ 106 - 1.84- 60' (slicks)

April - Went to my first FFW in Commerce. Cut a .500 light in the 1st round but still got put out. Had an awesome time

July - I added a 75 shot of Nitrous (ZEX kit) and run a 12.75 @ 107 - 1.79 -60' in 90 degree heat

July 30th- Had the Lightning exactly 7 months
Sold the Nitrous and bought a Kenne Bell Supercharger and Dynoed 492 / 572 in the Heat (pulleyed for 18 seeing 20 on the gauge) 446 / 506 (pulleyed for 14)

August 17th - Ran a 12.31 @ 112 - 1.81- 60' with the Kenne Bell in 90 degree heat

October 25th - First time at the track with my new Linelock installed. about 80 degree weather, Cut a 1.72 - 60' and was on my way to my first ever 11 second run. The motor destroyed 5 rods right before the 1/8 mile mark. 6400 miles on motor, 40th dragstrip pass !!

December 10th (Today) - Installing the ARP head studs in my new built shortblock while waiting for my Factory Tech Total Domination converter to be built so that I can install the new motor !!

2003 year in review for me... What a year it was….
To start out, the year 03 was really big for me. Not just with my the expierances with my truck. I graduated High School, I turned 19, I started College. I bought a bike, put 5,000 miles on it, and sold it in 1 piece. Most importantly, I've done real well with college and at work.

I got my truck out of storage in March and I went to the track once in March and once in April. When I went in March, I blew my factory transmission! I was very lucky to get it warranted. A month later I went back, looking for a 12.99 and I ran 12.64 with just exhaust, ftvb, a chip, filter and 4# lower. Around then, I got the mod bug and I put some more mods on it. While I was at WFC 6 in St. Louis, I replaced my 80mm mass air with a 90mm mass air and I got a cone filter. I got some slicks, a 2.80 upper, and traction bars. I also put on a single blade, a ported upper, a spacer, and the 100 mm idler pulley. I have yet to get a new best et with the current mods. The weather was warm last time I went out, and I was having problems with the program on my chip. I am looking forward to getting a re-burn on my chip and running a lower 12 in the spring.
I dynoed the truck at 412 horse and 491 torque. I need to get some bugs worked out, get my 60-foot times down, and try to get back to the track and get a better et.
My goals for 2004 are simply to dyno again at 400/500+ and then to run a lower 12 with the et streets. I'd like to get my 60-foot times down below the 1.85 where they are at now. As for any more mods, if I had to predict now, I don't have anything huge in mind for 2004. I hope the motor and trans stay together. Wish me luck in 2004. I wish everyone else the best of luck in 04.
Thanks for everyones help in making 2003 what it was.
Shane

This year has sucked total ***. Haven't got laid since february. Totalled 2 brand new '03 motorcycles. Didn't work out much this year, so my powerlifting totals have not increased. Cheated death 3 times. One of which I hit a tree at 120mph in mid air while my bike slid and hit another tree. Not a bump, scratch or bruise from that. Business has sucked ***** all year too. When I was once making $100-1000 per hour has dropped to like $10. My self esteem is shot to hell. **** it all.

I guess the only thing good is that I have an 03 Sonic blue lightning and perfect health.

I finished great!

Came into 03 w/a 14.01 @ 100 and left with a 12.74 @ 106 Some runs were in the 107s. But the ETs were slower?

Othwewise: Attended a funeral of someone close, changed Jobs, spent too much on toys, ate too much, my son got his first deer, bought the wife a new piano, got to run the Lightning in the hills/mountians of eastern Tenn., learned much more about the scriptures, and have a family that loves me as much as ever.

04 Will contain more knowledge, more giving, and quicker ETs.

Rich B

let's see...2003...

dated a hot chick then we broke up, been single since...

i picked up a second job at best buy, which sucks @$$ as far as pay goes but the discount rules

i worked way too many hours and missed way too many meets which i'll never let happen again. i also lost touch with most of my friends. money ruled my life.

on a positive note I PAID OFF MY LIGHTNING!!!!! the 20th payment was the final!

healthwise this hasn't been a very good year for me. i had the gout in my left foot, i tore something in my shoulder in a fight that healed on its own, i carved a nice hole in the bottom of my foot on an open clamshell when i went jetskiing. high blood pressure and high liver enzymes. gained more weight because i dont have time to workout because i'm working so many hours.

mod wise i didn't get a better time this year. i am still at 12.97. but the upside is that i have a metco 4# lower pulley, throttle body, traction bars, and slicks to be installed over the winter for the start of next season!

i hope 2004 is a healthier year for me. my goal of 2004 is to purchase my own house before i turn 26. (by june 24th)

it was a hard year for me, but i'm optimistic and i think 2004 will be an awesome year!

Your not alone in the business department. It sucks right now for some reason. I just hope it picks up soon.

Started off 2003 on a ship bound for Iraq. Changed coarse and spent a month on a tropical isle, then went to iraq. Saw way too many young men and women visit our ship (hospital ship). Came home, had five months off from a company that only allows 30 days/yr. Took the L to many events. Broke 12's at my home track NED. And now the L is tucked safely in the bat cave, and I fly out to meet my next ship on saturday. (incase we don't have good internet access, see ya in the spring guys!)
