Royal Purple question.
It's all synthetic. They have street and race oil. They just started making the 5w 20 in the street oil. I run it and change every 7500 or so. I don't know the difference between the race and street. Just that the street is like 3 bucks a quart cheaper.

As a small dealer in PHX for Royal Purple I sell and use a few different ones.
I run normal 10-30 in my Truck (just a 150, no Lightning) due to the towing use I put it through during the summer months.
I run Race 21 currently in both my Pikes Peak car as well as some Formula Mazdas I service. I prefer the 21 for the PP car given the 8200rpm in the SHO motor with no cam bearings in the heads etc etc. I feel that the pressure here warrants the extra weight.
I run Race 11 in a few Formula Fords with no problems. No known service life problems or such.
That being said, I in fact called RP and asked for some specifics on the difference between 'normal' oil and 'race' oil. (yea more than twice the price too!)
They were quite vague in telling me much. This I find quite disappointing for a company. However the best I could get from the info they would cough up was that the race oil "doesn't have to meet the same requirements of the street oils when I comes to regulations and additives, detergents etc. etc." Now this doesn't mean the 'race' oils don't contain these same properties, he didn't say that.....
If we read between the lines and can assume that what is said is correct, then the street oils are likely more suited for just that; a street motor and longer life cycles. And the race oils are better for more regular changes- like 8 operating hours. Being flushed out it is replaced and kept cleaner.
Fact, fiction? Who knows. If you can get more info on the SPECIFICS of these two products please let me know.
Aside from this the oil seems to do a fine job in both street and personal race car testing. Better than M1? Probably not, but it looks cool.

ToddTCE,
From the little they have told you, we are paying more for "racing" oil that isn't held to any specs and isn't meant to last.
A little O/T. Do you drive that PP car? I went to the top earlier this year on vacation and couldn't imagine racing up that mountain at 100+ mph.
Cali L,
That's good to know. I hated paying so much, but up until now Racing 11 has been the only synthetic that was the equivelant of 5w-20.
