Thanks, Shane
I have driven the Grand Am before and its not as tight, responsive and enjoyable as a GTP. I also am not a fan of the interior on the Grand am. Still not a bad car.

The Grand Prix GT has enough power to be safe. You can pass with out fear when you have to and what not. It drives nice, sure footed. It has a softer suspension and what not but I really liked it and is a good buy if you can’t afford the extra cash for the GTP. If you are getting it as a daily driver and want to save the extra money this is the way to go.

The GTP is sure footed, nicely tuned suspension, plenty of power. Its a perfect combination of power, handling and comfort. Not too stiff not too soft. My Fiancé was looking for a car and we had a lot to choose from and we ended up getting a 4 door GTP.

What you have to do is test drive every car and then make your choice after you have experienced each one. You may like the GTP way better then any other but it still may not be the right choice for you. You have to ask yourself what you need out of this car.

As far as Jeeps go I am not a big fan. I find them very bouncy (Read suspension), noisy (read no sound proofing) and very ummm lets say plain on the inside.

But this is all just one guys opinion. Like I said drive em all and make an educated choice.

Good luck!

It's a quick little car. I'd say the Jeep is best for what I need wouldn't you agree? I am looking for something that will be good in the winter, and fun to drive in the spring if I can't drive my truck. The jeep fits that. I've driven a jeep before and I really liked it. The GTP would be fun also, but if I could be out having fun in the GTP, I dont know why I couldn't be doing it in the Lightning.

Shane - I agree. The Jeep is a lot of fun. I had a 99 Shahara with both tops. I never drove it in snow. It was my toy. I have friends that spun out too many times on slick streets. I was driving on the highway one evening on dry pavement. A deer was standing on the shoulder, I hit the brake, the back end broke loose left, right and left again. I found myself going north in the south bound lane of the highway when the right side came up. It came back down when the rear tires hit the rocks on the shoulder. My wife told me I needed something with anti- lock brakes. I had just the vehicle in mind. I bought my 03 Sonic Blue L Happy ending!!! My winter truck is a 01 Screw. Next spring I will trade the 01 for a 04. The L is in the barn for winter. If you get the Jeep, remember the wheel base is REALLY short and quick. I am fifty and maybe didn't react fast enough. I will admit I was driving a little too fast and should not have had that "One" beer before driving. If you opt for the Jeep, be careful. I am done preaching.

We've had a GTP since 1999 and love it. There is lots of mods out there for it too. It also gets 27 miles to the gallon on the highway.

I bought my wife a Jeep Liberty when they first came out because she thought they were "cute" I had vowed years ago to never own another Dodge product due to the poor quality but she really wanted one so I did it. We kept it about 4 or 5 months and about half that time it was at the dealer for various probs. (The day we bought it on the way home the piece under the steering column fell off and cut my leg!) Anyways I traded that POS on a Gran Prix GT (we don't like leather and you can't get the GTP with cloth) and she has been happy ever since.

So after all that rant my suggestion is go with the GTP. Especially since you are already used to power 'cause that Jeep will be a turd.

yeah, but do I need a supercharged winter car? I'd love a GTP. I need to drive one and price them out in my area. I already looked at a few jeeps. I need to look at some GTP's up close.
Thanks for ALL the info, Shane

Shane,
Get the Jeep. My wife has had hers now for about almost 2 yrs. I bought the sport W/4.0. They are a blast to drive in the summer and they also have the Jeep Jambore's which I plan to attend this year. I've heard it's a blast. Those straigt 6 motors last forever. We have put almost 30K miles on it without one single problem. All these people that complain about Jeeps rolling over I bet have never even driven one. They are very stable for a short wheelbase vechile. You just have to realize that you are in a Jeep not a Corvette. Oh and Chicks dig them too

Thanks Paul. I like the Jeeps too. I drove by one for sale on Washington street on my way to dinner yesterday. I just didnt go home that way, so I wasnt able to stop and get the 411.
I also drove a GTP over the weekend. I could tell the difference the Supercharger makes. The GTP's are nice. My buddy had a grand am gt, I am going to borrow that for the night next week. I also want to test drive a 5 speed Jeep. The only ones I've driven were a new auto, and my old auto, and my buddies brothers 90' 5 speed. I'd like to drive a 98 or so 5 speed. I will keep you posted, I really appreciate all the info.
Thanks, Shane

What about a Grand Am GT?

My buddy has one. I am open to ideas. Like I said, I want to get something nice. I should be able to keep it around in the spring time and summer, and drive it then also. It will be a 2nd car so I can drive this if I can't drive my truck... The grand am's are nice for the money. Most of them are under $10,000 for a nice used one. They look nice, and drive nice for a v6. Any input on a Grand am?
Thanks, Shane

Shane,
I owned a 98 GTP and it was a great car. There is a lot of room inside for all your friends to ride with you, it has a large trunk to fill with luggage when you go on a trip. It was very fast and handled great. I had HUD and all the other accessories.. The girls like it because it looks nice, inside and out, plus with heated seats they will love it in the winter.. if you arent driving that far to work or school, the heated seats make a big difference on those cold days. If you end up taking a road trip with your buds in the summer, the GTP is the shiznit. It holds a lot and its comfortable for up to 4 BIG guys..
I have a friend that has the Grand Am. He really likes it but its not nearly as spacious inside. It is the most popular car that GM sells. So there are lots of them out there for parts and they can be worked on by most everyone. The 4 cyl version isnt that bad because you can really spool that engine up to get the hp out and if you take it on a road trip, you can cruise at 80+ all day and still get great gas mileage.
I am down on the Jeep because of the leaky nature, poor build quality, tippiness, and all the other negatives you have seen posted here. I know a lot of folks that buy them, only to realize the mistake they made and then take a bath on the trade in when they go to get something else.
My new winter beater is an 2002 Acura TL.
Good luck on your decision.
Dana

I found a nice red 2000 GTP for sale in my price range, but it is like 250 miles away.
I am going to call him today to see if the car is worth the drive.
The KBB value on the car in good condition is only $10,000. He is asking $11,800 what do you think a fair price for the car is? It has 60,000 miles and it is a 2000.

Stay far away from Grand Am's... my fiance has one that will be gone soon - I just can't stand the car. The GTP is by far your best bang for the buck, and will retain some resale value. I would offer $10,200 for the car you have pictured. I would still go 4 door on it as it looks cleaner, and is very, very useful.
