Jeep or GTP for a 2nd car to go along with the Lightning???
Jeep or GTP for a 2nd car to go along with the Lightning???
I am in the market for a 2nd car. I need to store the truck, and get a winter car.
I was looking at Jeeps for about a month or so. I looked at so many of them, I started to get tired of them. So I took a little break and I started looking at Grand Prix's GTP's. I've always liked them, but never enough to go out and get one.
It will be a 2nd car, and mostly a winter car. The Jeep would be a lot funner of a car in the winter. Then in the spring, with the top off, it will be nice too on a nice day. The GTP would be nice also. I just can't pick why it would be better off getting that over the Wrangler. I am still leaning towards a Jeep, but the GTP does sound nice too. Does anyone have any expierance with GTP's?
Jeep Wrangler or Grand Prix GTP???
Thanks, Shane
Go with the Jeep. I have had several as "toys" over the years and have really enjoyed them.
They are very versitile in that you can not only use the 4 x 4 in the
Winter to get around in the snow, but in the Summer you can remove the top, kick off the doors, and enjoy the features of a cycle with the safety and convenience of having 4 wheels.
I used to love to strip mine down in the Summer and cruise in the
country on those hot nights.
I am very seriously thinking of buying my middle daughter one for a first vehicle.

next to my corvette, the gtp was the nicest "inside" car i've ever owned, dual climate control ,heated leather seats, heads up display, onstar,
pleny of power with the tried and true 3.8, add the super charger and you've got all you need, especially considering you are only a pulley change away,
all comes down to what you want, ride and comfort or fun in the sun

my buddy has the GTP, it is comfortable, fast and pretty roomy, the front wheel drive will get you through most snow.
He has had a couple of computer related problems and one AC problem, but that is pretty much it over about 50K miles.
Jeeps are cold in the winter aren't they? with the soft top.
I would say it depends on your driving habits. If I had a 1/2 hr or so commute, I would go with the GTP. If not have fun w/ the jeep. later

Tough Call
Wouldnt think the jeep would give you much trouble, short of you having to go to the bathroom alot cause they are KIDNEY SHAKERS!!
GTP's are so nice, and if you ever wanted to take a trip, it would be a great highway car.
Jeeps are kinda novelities, but if you want something to play with they are fun.
I got all of mine out in HS went through all the ujoints, and the clutches burnt out so I lost quadratrac later in owning my 77 Cherokee Chief!!
Whish I still had her, dumped it for like 1500.00 man it would of been fun to fix up!!

Thanks for all the input. The Jeep would be real nice because it would be great in the snow, fun to take off roading, and nice in the spring time with the top off. The GTP would be nice also. It's a quick little car. I'd say the Jeep is best for what I need wouldn't you agree? I am looking for something that will be good in the winter, and fun to drive in the spring if I can't drive my truck. The jeep fits that. I've driven a jeep before and I really liked it. The GTP would be fun also, but if I could be out having fun in the GTP, I dont know why I couldn't be doing it in the Lightning.

GTP totally!!!!
I've had two of them so far, one a personal and one for work and I love those cars. They handle nice, they got power, there comfortable, and they just look nice too. My grand prix was a monster in the snow too, never got stuck once with it, but driving in the snow around chicago has to do with one thing only an thats tires. If you want to drive your L then just buy some winter tires and you'll be fine in the snow shane. Eric did it and I was blown away at how good the truck was in the snow.

I like the jeep BUT rolling over in one isn't pretty...they are indeed fun but that high center of gravity is a safety issue for me...I'd pick
the GTP due to my own bias...good luck on your choice.

Joey I knew you would chime in here and vote for the GTP. Do you still have yours? You know I work at the car wash/oil change on the weekend, so I get in and out of a lot of cars... I really like the Grand Prix's. I also like the Jeeps. I think the Jeep is more practical for what I need though.
I've been looking at Jeeps for a while now. I test drove a 97 the other day, but it was an auto. I wasn't sold on it. It also had high miles, and the asking price didnt line up with the condition of the vehicle...
The first pic in the post is of a Jeep I'd buy in a heart beat if I could find one (in a 6 cyl) for sale around here. That is an SE which is a 4 cylinder. I would like a 6. But I like the interior a lot in that Jeep. I am looking around to try to find that interior with a 6 cyl. I'd like to get a 97-2000 for under $12,000

Thanks for all the help, Shane
