Kenne Bell phenolic spacer reply
Kenne Bell phenolic spacer reply
Some of the Lightning truck owners were disappointed about our recommendation against the use of spacers like the ones JDM sell for our Lightning supercharger.
First of all, it is not our intent to bash anyone’s product. I am, however, always concerned about any product(s) that are bolted to our supercharger case. During the development and dyno testing of our kits, we had tested spacers and determined conclusively that they did not make any HP. No power gains coupled with concern over decreased firewall clearance and distortion of the supercharger case promoted us not to recommend these spacers. Upon further investigation, I asked Danny Swanson, a reputable and well respected tuner in Torrance, CA to do an accurate before and after test on Skip Gralpp’s 435 hp ‘99 Lightning. This truck runs 11.5 and 117mph. The dyno test was run at the same coolant temp. and inlet air temp. so as not to bias. The test numbers 435 without the spacer. 433 HP with spacer. That’s 2 different dyno’s with the same result.
Jim had already agreed to not sell these spacers for our superchargers and I appreciated that gesture. We’re merely attempting to do what we feel is in the best interest of our products and customers.

While I dont doubt or even question the horsepower advantages (or lack thereof) of the phenolic spacer or its warranty implications, I must say something about Skip's truck...
Im sure his truck makes an easy 435 hp, however, that is surely not enough to run an 11.5 @ 117mph. I assume this is the same Skip that posts here, if so, he posted this:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=132509
"....never been to the track..."
So, Im not sure where those 1/4mi times came from?
The SoCal lightning owners (Specifically those that frequent the drag strip) are pretty limited, most know of the others, there aren't many 11sec trucks down here, so Im sure someone would know something about it...

*edit* Maybe you are referring to franks truck? I think he is over 500rwhp though. */edit*

As I told you on the phone I would honor your wishes and not sell the Phenolic Spacer to the people with the KB's. I have never done any testing on the KB's with the Phenolic Spacer except it keeping the heat off the upper plenum. However, they do provide a horsepower increase on the Eaton's. I would like for you to clearify some other issues for the KB owners that we discussed on the phone. First, you said you wanted nothing hanging off your supercharger. Second, those with the metco belt tensioner or ten rib pulleys. Finally, the maximum speed you want your blower to not exceed. Could you please take a moment out to reply to this?
On a nicer note. With ten out of the eleven 10 second trucks we have tuned, ten of them have the Kenne Bell. We have reached a milestone of just over a hundred quarter mile passes in the tens between all the trucks. Also, between two of the Kenne Bell supercharged trucks they won six national events running in the tens. The most recent, my win at Lightning Fest in Kevin White's truck running 10.69 and Paul Gamino running 10.85. In the next two weeks we will have three more trucks leaving the shop with the KB's that will all be running in the 10's.

Kenne Bell,
Adding to Jim's post. We have tuned SVT F15O's 2001 Lightning. He holds the record for the quickest ET on a stock Lightning motor (stock heads, cams, rods, and pistons) with your Kenne Bell. Where all others have tried to reach the barrier and have broke their motor he still keeps pushing the envelope. A ten may not be far away on his stock motor. Would that be something or what?
Check out the NLOC.net fastest gen2 list. JDM tuned Kenne Bell trucks include:
SKNHD
Vinman
Dave London
Bambino
HDMLNIUM
SGL
Don's Bolt
SVT F15O
spankysghost
Johnny AC
Just out of the shop yesterday came Jeff Stanley's Kenne Bell tuned truck. He made over 515 RWHP on a stock motor just like SVT F15O. We have about 3 more KB trucks in the works all shooting for the 10's as well.
Thanks for your time Kenne Bell and welcome to F150Online.com

I'm sure Jim Bell wouldn't mind if i spoke on this subject since we @ JLP Are The *Certified* KB Dealer/Installer. We @ JLP work very close on a day to day basis with Kenne Bell. and personally with Jim bell.
This subject on these Metco/JLP Idlers keeps being brought up by JDM saying how this unit *VOIDS* the Warranty on the KB's. However i havn't been told 1 time from Jim Bell that it indeed did!. However if Jim Bell has an issue concerning the warranty because of this unit then JLP will Gladly stand behind *OUR* Customers Warranty. We @ JLP have been running this unit on Almost ALL of our KB customers trucks for The Entire Race season with NO issues! So To put to rest the False alligations that the Metco/JLP Idler will *VOID* your KB warranty. This simply just isn't true!...
Also the 10 rib belt setup Alligation is also not true. We @ JLP are still testing these pullies and havn't released them as of yet..... JL

I have your phenolic spacer on my KB. Should I take it off? I haven't had any problems with it thusfar but if you recommend not using it then I'll remove it. Thanks....
First - I have received excellent customer service as it relates to warranty from Kenne Bell!
Second - I am one of John's customers and I have the Metco set up with a reichard upper pulley - I wouldn't have it any other way!
It rocks, that simple!
