Talking Mystery behind Plugs????

I know everyone has their preference an opinion on plugs. I certainly do not want to knock any one of those with this post.

But, I am compelled to share a recent choice in plug. Beru S1K's kick a**, it is that simple.

When I first bought my L I very quickly tried the IT 22's with good results, then went to AR 93's with similar results. Following my tune in Miami it was suggested I go with Beru - a name I was very familiar with in my C5 days, but no one had ever brought up that name in the L family.

I gotta tell you, call me crazy, but I can actually hear and feel a difference - the idle is smoother and acceleration "seems" to be flawless. No more snap, crackle and pop..........., the odd hesitation or burp is a thing of the past.

I know our set ups are different based on mods, but I think I have found a plug match for mine. Just wanted to share some good news!

Is anyone else running with the silver tips?

D-Day

Is the Beru S1K in the same heat range as the Denso IT22.

I have run into those plugs before, Patrick and Willie from Diablo Sport have suggested those plugs for some time now. I know that they are very popular with the Ls1 crowd, especially on supercharged and nitrous applications. I've been running a new plug as of late......

Autolite AR103's employ an old technology that the racers used to do to their plugs back in the days. They come side-gapped which allows the kernel of the spark to face the combustion chamber. I noticed a very strong mid and upper range improvement.

TS Duke, that is a great question!

I know that the Beru is aprox. 3 degrees cooler than our stock plugs - in the range of the NGK-TR6, but because silver is a different heat transducer than conventional metals that range is hard to determine.

Glad to hear about your success, so I haven't lost my mind - differences are noticable with a plug change.

From what i hear those beru's are the plug to run.....I have seen that plug resolve several issues at a dyno. Joe Jill of Superior Automotive does a lot of heads and cam engine builds etc for the Ls1's and feels they work great on that application. I recently saw a lightning at Superior Automotive that was fully built and ran a KB get tuned with the denso it22's and the thing was misfireing etc. Joe Jill and Shawn of socaldiablo suggested a plug change to Ar103's and the truck fired up and ran awsome. It put down 510/570 at 5100 but it ran out of injector(42's). All of this was on pump gas and 14lbs of boost. Impressive. I'm sold on this plug but I would be willing to try the Beru's if the price dropped some........

You're going to laugh, but I haven't received the bill yet. I think, cost is $8 per plug, if memory serves me right?

What gap do you run the 103's at?

Cool

I tried the regular Autolite 103 a couple of years ago but the throttle response sucked. I think it was because of the wide ground electrode that went well past the center electrode shrouding the spark from the flame kernel big time. It looks like the AR103 takes care of that problem.

This is the first I've heard of a Beru plug.

I run them at .035.........

If you need any more info on heat ranges etc, look up the plug charts and cross reference tools on
