Question Is Optima the answer

Last night my batt went dead in between runs at the track, from running my e-fan, and bottle heaters.

If i switched to an optima battery would that solve the problem or do I just need to be more careful and not let those items run as long?

any input from optima owners would be helpful

Thanks

A yellow top should solve your problem.

Cool

HI!... I used to have the same problem with my factory battery when I would run my two electric rad fans and tranny cooler fan in the pitts at the dragstrip. The factory battery can only be totally drained 2-3 times before it won't accept a full charge again. I bought a YELLOW TOP deep cycle OPTIMA battery and havn't had a problem since. I think the YELLOW TOP can be totally drained up to like 300 times and WILL still accept a FULL charge.

I am sorry but if you run electric fans, and intercooler in the pits you will need more than a Optima battery.

This is what I use, Honda 2000 generator and a Sears Battery charger

the Optima still drains as fast, they can however be recharged many times

Though I have a Gen1, I do have the JDM fan and I run it when the motor is off..I added a 130 Amp alternator and the Yellow top and I have not had any issues since.
They hold a charge and I have let mine run for up to 5 minutes in between runs and that seems to cool the motor pretty good in that time.

The Optima Yellow is a deep cycle battery that has much more reserve capacity to run accesories while the truck isn't running. They also handle discharging and charging better than a conventional battery and quickly gets back up to full charge. It should take care of your problem.

Jon there are two ways to run a switch for the intercooler.

1) hook a wire and a switch with a inline fuse from the selanoid under the plastic cover next to the battery. Then tap into the white wire on the intercooler pump. Thats the way I did it, and as long as the wire doesn't rub anything and grouns out it works awesome. Thus my post to Jim, I hooked mine up temp a year ago and it rubbed somewhere and eventually grounded out and blew a fuse.

I did mine this way and it is now double protected. Hooked the power into one of the circuit brakers with the JDM electric fan. and a inline fuse.

2)Other people tap into the power distribution box along with a switch and a relay.

Both ways work

HI!... Well I don't know about the YELLOW TOP draining just as fast. I've turned both my 16" DERALE electric fans on and my 10" tranny cooler fan and left them all running up to 25 minutes because I got talking to someone in the pitts and forgot they were still on. Went back to my truck and all 3 fans were still running. I tried to start the truck and it fired up no problem.

Make sure you get the yellow top or the new yellow top with 155 minutes reserve. D31A. I have a red top and it runs out quick. I just bought a regular yellow top yesterday and found out about the latest D31A today...

Yeah, the red top is pretty much the same as a conventional battery except it's a dry cell battery, so no nasty acid that can spill out. It's main purpose is for starting, while the yellow top is mainly for the ability to run accesories longer and the ability to discharge and charge more often without harming the battery. The red top will give you a little better starting power, and is great for vehicles without many accesories to run.

Try the SVR-80. Holds much more power than the Yellow Top.
