Questions about laser radar!!

Radar jammers are illegal...
And another note: The reason why the boxes haven't gotten any smaller is the same reason we still have a two foot radio antenna... You need an antenna. The smaller the antenna, the worse your detection.

Bottom line is a radar detector is basically useless. By the time it detects and warns you it is to late, except to let you know to be prepared to pull over.
The only time it would be of use is a time you would not even need it, in a lot of traffic. Sure you’re in traffic and it may warn you but chances are your not going to be able to go over the speed limit anyway without weaving in and out of traffic. If you’re doing that it doesn’t matter if you have been clocked or not the office can still pull you over for reckless driving.
I would just save that money for mods or paying for speeding tickets and an increase in your auto insurance…

It is a proven fact that if your radar detector goes off it takes the average person 2.2 seconds to apply the brakes and show any slowing down in speed. By that time you can hang it up b/c the man already has your speed on his radar screen.
Radar is different all across the US and how its used. Cops in my area drive around with it on all the time. a V1 will save your butt 95% of the time. IF you are going to get any kind of detector, thats the one to own. Highway/Freeway's are where youre usually going to get nailed.

These are comments from people that dont or havent ever used a good radar detector.
If you are driving 130 by yourself on an empty road then I agree, Instant on is gonna get you. BUT the detector could still save your butt if the cop is lazy and is running the radar on 100%.
Most people are driving in traffic and want an extra measure of security. 90% of the time the detector picks up the radar a mile or more away when the cop hits someone in front of you. It also serves as an idiot preventer. It keeps you from showing your *** right in fromt of a cop running radar..

You bastiges
! I just ordered my second(I bought my first one when they first came out and those are not up-gradeable.) Valentine 1 to replace my 2 year old Passport 8500(It will go into my wife's Gran Prix.) I buy into the 'hype' and I do miss the "arrows" from years ago.

!,
What you say may be true. I just think they are a big waste of money and false security. The most accurate radar (trooper, highway patrol) detector I have seen when driving a “bit” over the speed limit in traffic is “brake lights”. If the brake lights are “not” coming on and the police are a mile or so ahead with the radar on and traffic in general is speeding, then someone already got caught by the law.

I agree that anyone who thinks detectors are useless just doesn't own a good one. I drive all over the country for the NMRA races, and I can tell you that V1 has saved my *** many times. And I'm not doing 90 or 100, I'm just talking doing 75 or 80 with the trailer, just to knock a little travel time off a 20 hour trip. The V1 has a 6 mile range, and I can attest I've picked up radar signals miles before I've seen the cop. And with the V1 telling you what direction the signal is coming from, that knowledge helps you learn what signals are false and which are legit.
As for instant on, it CAN make a difference. If you are traveling with other traffic, there is no way for the officer to know which vehicle is speeding. So slowing down when you get an instant on signal does help. Of course if you are by yourself, you're done, but also don't forget police officers are also trained in visual speed assesment, so even without a radar or laser device, and officer can asses your speed visually and still give you a ticket.
As for laser, the detector can help there too. Your detector will pick up the laser signal way before you might see the cop. Even thought he's targeting you, the act of you slowing down before you reach him, is usually enough for him to not go after you.

My two cents.
I haven't got a speeding ticket in about 2 years. I drive over 50K miles a year and I have the V1 and the RMR phazar. I think it works. I drive fast everywhere I go. I hit 140+ on a daily basis when I drive the Lightning. I have only had to run from cops once. He hit me with instant on and I was already at 120... I got a ticket in MS 2 years ago. I was doing around 90 and the cop got me after I passed him. He was hiding in some trees. Too bad I wasn't driving the Lightning.

I haven't had a detector in years, but after flying past an officer doing 105mph last night it looks like I need to invest in one.
For anyone else not up to speed on these, I noticed this site:
