Ceramic brake pads?

This weekend our local SVTOA had a track day event. It was a blast! of course now I need brakes.

I've never seen my front wheels so dirty with brake dust as they were after track day. I'm wanting to go with ceramic pads, hoping to get more braking power and LESS DUST.

Can I run ceramic pads just in the front? I also drag race quite a bit. You wouldn't want ceramic pads on the back while doing a burnout would you?

Any suggestions?

I just put ceramix in the front. I would go with the stockers in the back

I just installed the same thing.

MadRabbit, if you are doing more like open track racing your gonna need something more, such as the Hawk HPS pads.

SpankDog:

Do you have a link to the Hawk HPS?

I think I'll be doing an event like that about twice a year but it'd be nice to have less fade and more stopping power

I think the ceramic pads don't work as well as the semi metallic pads. I'm not 100% sure, but that is what I have been told. Less brake dust is nice and I run ceramic raybestos brakes and I like them, but I don't do open track events.

Tire Rack.com

Tire rack has them and Ceramic are far superior to semimetalic.Less fade Greater wear and no dust.

HUH?

Ceramic pads and on-track excursions don't mix well but for putzing around on the street, they are fine.

Face it, you WILL get brake dust from on-track events, period. Fact of life, deal with it. Simple Green and a power washer.

MadRabbit,

Hawk Pads are available through Tire Rack also.

My only experience with ceramic pads are on a dodge durango. I was suprised to find that the ceramic pads emitted almost as much dust as the factory pads. I have always been told that they wouldn't.

They are supposed to stay cooler also.

I think you got the wrong ones , I put mine 3 weeks ago and I have no dust at all.

What kind of problems happen if you're using ceramic pads on-track? The dust is annoying but if ceramic has some performance or safety problem, dealing with dust is minor. Like you said power washer.

I had the impression that ceramic was better for the track

i dont know about track events, but, i just put Napa Ceramix pads on all 4 corners and they seem to stop me a lot better then the stockers. im talking about street use. as far as dusting, they DO still dust. not as bad as the metallics' though.

as far as drag racing, why would it be a bad idea to have ceramix on the rear when doing a burnout?

I recently heard something about ceramic pads are more likely to warp the rotors and our rotors can only be turned once before they need to be replaced.

Is this true?

I have participated in several on track events. I use Ferrodo 2500 pads on my front. They are a street / track compound that dont kill you in the city...... They offer great fade resistance and excellent stopping power. Yes they do make alot of dust and a little squeel when cool. But when I am doing 120 + down the front straight going into the hard right I want to stop..
I am also using willwood high temp fluid. The fluid is the biggest concern with brakes... Bleed your fluid often.!!!!

I use Power stop gas slotted rotors in the front with ducting blowing on the rotors coming from the foglight holes when I remove them for racing.

I am trying out Hawk HP Superduty in sept in Kansas. They are a little cheaper and they claim to be a little cleaner in the long run. These pads are a multi compund pad of ceramic, carbon fiber and metallic.

I got about 200 racing miles on half of the Ferrodo's. I should be able to streach them another 100 miles on the track..

I get all my pads and rotors from Raceshopper.com
If you have a L ask for edwin.. He knows his L brakes

I ran Cermix on the rears at the track without any issue, but I wouldn't use them for the front for track racing (not drag strip)

Ditto Fine on the street but I'd go with the Hawks for track days.
