I simple hoop around the back and then to bars that go around the roof line down the front of the truck would be more then enough to mount a handle for you. Any roll cage shop should have an easy piece of cake time doing that and if your really only looking to make the roll cage for the handle and thats it you can get away with allot smaller tubing.

If it doesn't go through the rear window, it shouldn't pass tech.

Question, though. I also have been thinking about a cage that does not go through the window. If I run in a series which does not require a cage (or dragged at over 11's), would I get bumped?

I have heard of people failing tech for having improperly mounted harnesses when they are not required and the stock belts were also in place and used.

I see you're in Memphis, go by the Hot Rod Shop off 70/summer ave. (901)385-6895. We share a shop with them, here's a tube chassis for a vette thats almost done, and above that is a sprint car. The frames are designed/fabbed in house, you're cage won't be a problem.

Here's a dragster chassis Garvin is building for himself. You won't find a better chassis guy in the state.

A roll bar like mine, welded to the fram and bars going through the rear window will range from $1500-$2500.

The price depends on a few factors.

What type of tubbing you use
Mild steel is lex expensive, but heavier
Chrome molly is more expensive and lighter

How you paint the bar

You can paint it a flat black, or you can match the trucks paint, with a bacecoat/clearcoat which is also more expensive.

Also modifying the rear window can get expensive.

You may be able to weld or bolt the bar to the floor of the cab, and not goe through the rear window, since you are looking to help you get in and out.

Also maybee a good body, or chassis shop can re enforce the roof and puller area to allow a grab handle to be installed.

Still even has the plastic around the tubing so that "I would be the first one to scratch" so says the installer
