I drove my truck with no exhaust at all - straight out of the cats... It was loud, but it sounded so crappy. I ran a MAC on my 99 and was extremely pleased with that. When I got my 02, there was a deal on the SilverBullet, and that's what made it affordable to me. I like their tips the best out of all available. They fit the opening perfect - any bigger, and it would look goofy. I like how the tips are welded together too.... that just adds to the nice clean look.
I would highly suggest Silverbullet as long as you get the updated piping (be sure to ask about that).

add long tubes and high flows, all the volume you'll need!! cat back only Bassani or Silver bullet sound the loudest to my ears.

I have been comtemplating the cat back options for a while. This weekend at the LOOM cokout I heard an L with straight pipes. the owner had a basanni cat back and did not like the sound (too quiet). I listened to it and I am having my muffler removed in the Am at the local Midas shop. For about $100 I may love it. If I do not I will get a Magnaflow, but after hearing hers and talking to others it looks like one of the best bangs for the buck we can get.

Right on. Straight pipes on an L sound LOUD and there's definitely a distinctive "glasspack" raspiness to it.

I have straight pipes on mine....but I'm switching to the Magnaflow catback soon.

No track comparos...other mods were added almost simultaneously...

Had the pipes on for about 6 months...maybe a bit more.

I don't know if they have them for the Lightning but since you have a Magnaflow kit now... have those mufflers replaced with the Magnapak mufflers... I've got the magnaflows on my Mustang GT... and get complements all the time on how it sounds... and I've heard and ran around with a guy that had the magnapak on his 99 cobra... thing was almost abnoxious... he was infront of me and got on it... I couldn't even hear my own car when I got on it...
just a thought... and could be a little less expensive than a whole new catback.. same great sound only REALLY loud..

Chris

I had the muffler removed today at a local Midas. They did a great job and it is the best deal going. It sounds great. Nice quiet idle. Similar to a Magnafloe at low throttle and like a dragster at wide open. Very slight drone at 60 but none at 70.

Im headed down to Magnaflow tomorrow for final fitment on the production piece for a high flow cat pipe.

This piece should be for sale in mid august. If you would like something loud, pick up the V2.0 Magnaflow catback, then add thr high flow converter pipe to the mix. That should be plenty loud for you.

Ill be track testing on saturday the new hi flows to see how well they do. The Mag catback does infact make power. Add the hi flows to the mix and its even more.

Ylw 98 Snake....which Spin-Techs did you use...im going back and forth between Magnaflows..the 4 or 6in round ones..which are considered magnapacks......or the Spin-Tech Sportman Mufflers...i just buying the mufflers and having pipes bent up with an x-pipe before the mufflers. I can get everything for 385 either way...i like the tips on the Magnaflow cat-back..but i want tthe louder Magnapack round mufflers. There is a guy on FTW that has the same set-up i want with Mags..but he wont email me back about how it sounds. So I may just use Spin-Techs for somethign different.

FineLineMtrSprt,

Spintech makes a catback for the Lightning with a Dr. Gas X-pipe. I'm not sure which Spintech mufflers comes with the system. Here's a pic of the Spintech Catback:

I would go with the round magnaflows w/ x-pipe over the Spintechs. Later

You know, I was thinking this earlier today. If I had the money, I would get LTs and do open-headers for a while. I like scaring the neighbors and I could probably get campus police to chase me. Plus the Harley motorcycles around here are pretty loud and it's time for some aural competition.

Plus Indiana doesn't give a crap about emissions. Drive down to Lafayette and you'll see what I mean (it literally stinks here).
