I'm with Chuck on this one

Hey Chuck I like that
"Don't Pi$$ down my back and tell me it's raining"

When I first bought my L I hated the way the Rev Limiter, and the 4 cylinder Drop Out (Torque Reduction) Felt

here's how it went,

I would ATTEMPT to do a normal Launch to have some fun,
I'd stap it, it would smoke the living schitt out of the tires,
immediatly hit the rev limiter,
(because of that) short shift second,
boog totally down,
then the fuel would come back in,
it would then down shift back into first,
red line again,
and then cut out 4cylinders and fart,
IT WAS THE WORST FEELING AND SOUND I HAVE EVER HEARD.
I hated it
I was soooooooooooooo pissed off, I wanted to return it
NO WAY I COULD EVER PUT UP WITH THAT

Now it shifts at 5500-6000 RPM
Never hits the Limiter
"EVER"
and Torque Reductions has been shut off
on all 10 of my current and past programs

Ok so maybe the tranny clutches are taken a beaten
(and I believe they are)
But at least when I stap it now,
I know I got ALL MY CYLINDERS WORKING
through the hole Pass

Rob, I know what you mean, I turned a 17 second run that way once, boy did I feel stupid. But you would be surprised how far tehy will burn up and still work, if your mods are consistent, watch your trap speeds, it's a dead giveaway.

Gregg, do you have any pics of the damaged clutches? I would like to see what they look like.

Cool

Rob,

The "Don't Pi$$ down my back and tell me it's raining" comment was about Ford's process of torque reduction. That fart sound is a small backfire and that can't be good on the motor.

It's no doubt we're tough on the clutches and wearing out the tranny. Better there than the head gaskets, pistons or rods by the added boost of larger pulleys with the fabulous fart.

5 extra pounds of boost can change everything. No colin cleansing here. I don't want to mess myself.

I never heard the fart sound it makes but it sounds like a blow off valve sometimes when in boost then take foot off pedal. IF you guys are hearing the fart noise, how come you dont drop your shift point to match where your power drops off from the dyno run? Seems more logical.

Coul you please explain what you mean by "drive around it"? (Just a new L owner trying to learn something.) Thanks!

Cool

****,

You only hear the fart if you are stock with torque reduction or you have torque reduction left on in your chip.

The computer is removing fuel and timing from a split second on a few cylinders during the 1-2 shift. The introduction of fuel again is most likely causing the fart sound.

Cool

If you are running a chip and didn't tell the tuner to leave it on then it's been turned off.

I told my tuner to turn it off. He didn't. I guess so I would be safe and lose races . And your right, can't be good for the motor.

hey

could that be my problem

http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread...threadid=46931

Specifically:

"with the Nitto's I tried everything and I would launch, spin through first, burn through 2nd, then I would get traction and downshift to first again then into second, by then it was all over.

I had a few good launches with the Nitto's, but they were 17" so I was in overdrive just before I hit the end.

I put traction bars on since then and would like to give the F1's a try, I think with the bigger diameter I will not be shifting into overdrive before the end of the track.

So the secret it to dust them off, but don't melt them.
sounds easy enough.

Soap,
I think you once owned the Nitto's I'm talking about. They are a blast on the street, but too small diameter for the track.
(wanna buy them back, for old times sake?)"

I know my torque reduction was left on becuase I didn't want to burn up the plates (Plus I trust Gregg's advise).

Would this cause the shifting dilemna that I am experiencing?

Is the torque reduction only on the 1-2 shift? How long does it last, .1-.2 tenths? Id probably leave it in on the 1-2 shift, but cut the time in half. And take it out of the other shifts. I have a shift kit allready and dont spend too much time between gears-if you know what I mean

I have a line mod valve aswell...but it's still very noticeable.
