Torque Limiter OFF? any probs?

I was wondering how many people are running with the torque limiter turned off. It's driving me crazy. I lost a race to a camaro ss cause of the damn thing. Since I'm going to be spraying soon, wondering if the tranny can handle it. Ronbo convinced me to take the stupid thing off. Any problems from anyone?

I think he means "torque reduction" or the infamous fart. Mine was turned off.

Most who are chipped have it turned off although Gregg suggests that it be left on to increase the longevity and reliability of your transmission. (I'm feeling PI today)

400HPHD: Yes, via chip.

How did you lose a race due to the torque reduction "fart shift"? Got a scan of the timeslip?

If anything it prevents you from losing traction during a shift, which comes in handy around a turn or on a slick surface. Kind of like traction control.
Oh yea, and it's good for the transmission sprag thingy, or something.

It was the street race. Actually the sum batch faked me out making me think he wasn't going to run when i revved on him. With no indication he just floored it. he got a car on meby the time i floored it and we stayed that way all the way through till about 100. It was stock either. I felt i could have gained if it wasn't for it. I notice it big time. theres a big delay in power when it's on.

edit: the ss was modified too.

Cool

Torque reduction has been off for almost 40,000 miles. Line mod valve has been in for 23,000 miles.

It does slow you down if you don't have some type of shift improver and even then it will cost you some time.

When mine was stock I had an experienced drag racer watch me run and he said I came charging out of the hole like crazy. He pointed to an area of the track and said right about there the truck slowed down. He pointed at the area where I was switching into second gear.

If it shortens the life of the tranny so be it. It's going to go out eventually even with it on. Torque reduction sux plain and simple.

You can't tell me it's good on a supercharged engine cutting the fuel at WOT and then dumping it back in just to add some life to the tranny.

Don't Pi$$ down my back and tell me it's raining.

From your website:
Boost Actuator Adjustment and above mods. 13.39 @ 101.99 mph (55 degrees)
JDM program and above mods. 13.27 @ 103.44 mph (45 degrees)

So if a chip and 10 degrees = .12 seconds, then removing just the fart shift from your truck got you what, like .03 seconds quicker?

Post it all. Not just what you want to making torque reduction look like it's not that bad for ET's.

Stock 1/4 mile times 14.19 @ 96.20 mph

K&N filter panel with modified airbox, Splitfire plugs, Magnaflow muffler and 160 degree thermostat. 13.84 @ 98.30 mph

Superchips R9 program and above mods. 13.41 @ 100.40 mph (55 degrees)

Boost Actuator Adjustment and above mods. 13.39 @ 101.99 mph (55 degrees)

JDM program and above mods. 13.27 @ 103.44 mph (45 degrees)

Torque reduction was turned off with the first chip (Superchips R9 program). That's a .43 second reduction. I'll gaurantee 2 tenths of it came from no more torque reduction.

I leave mine on, and I learned to drive around it, it can be done. It does prolly cost me a tenth, but I'm not a serious racer, so it doesn't matter to me. One thing I would say, a lot of people turn off the torque reduction and sya it's fine in XXX miles, and they think it is. But I can almost always tell a tranny that's had it turned off by looking at the damage to the intermediate clutches, they can get pretty burned before they fail and since it happens over a long period of time yo don't noticeit, but it's there, I can almost gaurenty ( I just can't spell that word) it. Thyey'll hold enought to drive until the middle one burns all the friciton material off and by then the splines are welded to the race. As Joe Messina about this, his was toasted pretty good, but he said he didn't feel any of it. A good way to tell is to compare your trap speeds, you'll lose some MPH at the end. But......since a lot of people do mods between the chip and when they start to show wear, their trap speeds don't "drop" because at teh same time the truck is getting faster, and again they don't notice it.
