Seperating the SC from the engine is a very bad idea. The SC uses the engine as a heat sink. There's no cooling for it otherwise. I'd expect the SC to go boom if you isolated it.
By insulating the intake, the incoming air is exposed to a hot pathway for less time. If the case of high speed moving air, time exposed to hot parts is typically much more important than temperature of the hot parts.
Still don't know how much you'd get and I've love to see some dyno numbers, but I doubt that will happen.

I expect to pay a premium for L parts. However, what happened to this price quote?

$89 here, now I read $50 more a couple months later. I paid $40 for a phenolic spacer on GT-40 intake spacers for my Stangs. Same phenolic material and much more than for the L application. 3 times the cost is a bit steep for me. Lord knows I've spent plenty of $$$$ on my L but this is just way too high of a price IMO.
Reminds me of my $500 shiny throttle body mod.

Well ya see people, if people buy it and don't put up a fuss about it then the price will stay right where it is. Now if no1 buys them and EVERYONE complains the price will come down. Hell if I had a product and everyone was banging on my door to get I certainly would jack up the price. It is all about supply and demand. If we use our heads things will work out for our benefit. I say let them charge whatever they so desire, but if no1 buys the price WILL come down. Just some facts. -Mat-
Well... I like saying Phenolic in sentences when I'm explaining my mods to people....
I've had mine running now since last Friday. When I shut off my Lightning I can open the hood and place the palm of my hand on the upper plenum without the previosly felt pain of sizzling metal. After a few minutes, the plenum is back down to ambient temperature, whereas the Eaton is still hot. I think, this is going to help me out a lot with cool downs and I feel a lot better about the reduction in intake temps in general. Well worth the $139 imho, so I'll not eat out for a few days... Thanks JDM !!!1

I betcha someone will offer the same thing at nearly half the costs. Like discussed previously, phenolic material is cheap and easy to machine. Imagine, for $139, the exact same piece used for the inlet of the blower AND the lower to blower housing, lncluding the gaskets and bolts. You would STILL make a healthy profit off of it.
And, i do not believe you would hurt your blower by having a phenolic spacer made for it. Ive talked to a reputable blower manf about this and he calls Fud on that statement, that it would hurt the blower. Less heat is ALWAYS good.

To all:
"Straighten out the airflow pattern" I will try to explain it so you understand. It's called a short turn. If you have ever had the upper plenum off your supercharger and it's turned upside down you will see the front edge of the opening has a very short turn to it and the back of the opening has a long turn in it. What the plenum spacer does is increases the length of the short turn which will allow the air before it hits the supercharger to be more of a straight shot downwards instead of the air coming off the factory short turn. Instead of going downwards it gets shot more to the back of the plenum. It's the same as putting much larger valves in your heads. The front edge of the valve is the short turn, if you put an oversize valve you shorten up the short term. Thats what we do to our raced prepared heads we actually put an offset guide in it to move the valve toward the front of the head to allow the increase of the short term so, the head will pick up airflow.
Now, the phenolic spacer kit is $89.95 without the EGR tube. With the EGR tube it is $139.00.
When you raise the upper plenum the EGR tube is going to be 5/8 inch short. It's very easy to take the EGR tube and straighten out one of the bends a little bit and that will gain you your 5/8 of an inch. Some of our customers like a complete bolt on kit, that's the reason why we offer it with a pre bent tube but it sounds like you guys just want the cheap kit.
Cyntaxx,
You can not polish phenolic. I really don't appreciate your link to the useless mod thread. If you have any knowledge or experience to back up your link to the useless mod thread I would like to hear it because we use this mod all the time on our customer's trucks and everyone so far has loved it. It drops your plenum temperature after a 1/4 mile run 68 degrees. This means that the air going in to your supercharger is cooler which on a supercharged engine is a plus. There's over a half a million mustangs our their driving around every day with a phenolic spacer on, I guess you would like to tell a half a million people that it is a useless mod. You posted in here three times and said nothing intelligent or have any data as to why use put this in the useless mod thread. If you post in here again I would like you to give some intelligent data to back up why it is a useless mod so the Lightning community can benefit from it instead of you bringing your post count up.

Excellent mod
I for one think that this is an excellent mod.
Now that the price is down to where it was supposed to be, everyone can put that money towards a powercooler, because now the ice on your intake wont do the supercharger or lower intake anygood, the thermal transfer of the cooling just wont happen with the phenolic spacer in place.
It seems that all the consistantly faster trucks have more attention to detail and do these small things that will pay huge dividends in the long run.
Good Job JDM. Keep the new products coming.

I'm glad you mentioned those Mustangs Jim. Do a little search and try to find a phenolic spacer for 140. Try to find one for 90. Most are around 50 bucks.
But then again, did you try to pull a fast one on the "Lightning community?" You clearly stated they were going to be priced at 89 bucks but I guess greed overwhelms even the purest of souls? Oh, and nice job playing it off with that whole EGR BS. I feel the same way as SVT F150 about your pricing.
If you post in here again I would like you to give some intelligent data to back up why it is a useless mod so the Lightning community can benefit from it instead of you bringing your post count up.
Man, Jim, I would think you'd choose your words more carefully after that whole JJ's SVT fiasco? Guess not huh?

Everyone loves them...
Jim:
I'm not bashing the product or the price, but what kind of statement is "Everyone loves them"
Do you have any dyno or track numbers? I know a lot of people have asked for them. What would be really cool is dyno/track numbers comparing the phenolic spacer to a aluminium spacer to see if the insulation does anything for you...
I think it's fair that people complained about the price. The picture you posted doesn't have the EGR tube in it, so no one knew about it.

Im going with Jim on this. 139.99 for the kit with a pre made full fit egr tube is fine. Yes its cheaper to do on your own, but thats the point, he has a business, thats what he does. Remember your not just buying the items. Your buyig the idea that goes with them. If you wanna go make one feel free, no ones forcing you to buy em. I still think more profit is to be had at a lower price, but its not my call Yes prices are high now, and they will go down later, welcome to economics.
Still looking for dynos and times if they do anything for them?
Maybe just helps with cool down?

yeah I also agree that this is a good mod. I have been really looking into ways to cool the motor/supercharger down after I put on that smaller upper pulley. I think I am going to pick up one of the intake spacers even for $140... it goes between the supercharger and the intake plenium or where does it go?
i'll let you know how I like it. thanks, Shane
i'll let you know how I like it. thanks, Shane
i see where it goes now, and it makes sence it helps. What jim said about the upper intake plenium I now understand. It goes under the intake plenium, between that and the supercharger. So it raises the back part of the plenium a little and distances it more from the charger correct?

Now, the phenolic spacer kit is $89.95 without the EGR tube. With the EGR tube it is $139.00.
So I can get the spacer kit with bolts and it is only $89.95 I just have to bend my egr tube to make up for the 5/8ths inch I gained in length (from the spacer) If I can do that, I'll go with it for $90.
thanks, Shane
