my take on things...

I'll be the first to admit that about half of the people I work with are ego-tripped ****** but like some have said here, you can't throw everybody into the same category. I apologize if I seem a little testy with the criticism but it's because I take pride in my job and try to do it with the best of my ability. As for the speed traps not protecting the public, well, pretty much that is true but what about the moron who runs over a little kid doing 60 in a 30? Also, if you were the parents of this little kid you might not be so harsh in your words. Unfortunately, this does happen way too often! Perhaps, and this is a big perhaps if he had been stopped a mile down the road the kid would still be alive? I'm not going to argue with anybody about the bad seeds-that is not my intention but please give SOME credit where credit is due I ABSOLUTELY LOVE slapping the cuffs on some piece of fecal matter who just beat the hell out of his girlfriend/wife in front of their children for no reason!!! If that's an ego trip, then I guess I'm a ***** And yes, I'll reiterate, a lot are a disgrace to be wearing a uniform. Just wanted to elaborate on my take of things.

btw, I'm not a ***** but if you hit the radar at 50 in a 30, you're getting a ticket whether your in an L or a Hyundai

Peace brothers....

I have to agree with cyntaxx, Cops do a lot of good in the community but busting people's ***** seems to be their main focus somtimes. A lot of roads are 3-4 lanes wide and are only 35-45 mph? You cant even pass someone without exceeding the limit by at least 10 mph...they know that, thats why you see them staked out on those type of roads.

They need the money from the tickets to pay for more equipment, to guess what? bust more people for speeding...its an ugly cycle. Then if you want the points off your record, you have to pay even more money and sit through a BS driving course thats designed for HS kids. I would have a much higher opinion of cops if they didnt treat it like "just a job" and actually cared not only about the laws but about the people those laws are designed for.

I mean, how many times have you seen a cop or state trooper blow past you at well over the limit with no lights or sirens? lots....at least around here...I have started taking down car #ers to call in, they have jerked me around 1 too many times. (not all ...but A LOT of them)

and they never seem to stop and help the people with flat tires either, they just fly on past so they can get back to their station and call it a night...they just dont care about us. My father and his brother were cops, I know how they are.

Some of you guys need to get a clue. You act as though owning a Lighting is some great trick. I've owned two, as well as a 97 Cobra, a 2001 Bullitt and a 2003 Cobra. My wife is driving a Jag, and before that a 93 Allante as her weekend toy as well as a 99 Limited Edition Explorer as a daily driver.............My house was just re-appraised at $365,000.........all on a cops salary.

Perhaps the cops in your neighborhoods make less money, but not here, or any of the agencies I worked for. In fact, law enforcement salaries usually mirror the economic strength of the community they work for, so if your cops are working for chump change, perhaps you should re-evaluate your neighborhood.

Let's face facts, cops are just like you. They have the same attitude towards you that you do them. Why should they look for your BMX bike? Can't remember how many times someone came in to report their unsecured bike was stolen from their front yard. If your dumb enough not to secure it, then it becomes the property of a guy who wants it worse than you. The cop will get paid even if he doesn't look for your bike.

Equate his work ethic to this: Mod your truck, it breaks.....pull off the mods and leave the truck on the side of the road. Ford fixes it and no ones the wiser...........what's the difference? Both appear to be highly unethical, but for some reason everyone wants the cop to be held to a higher standard. That's crap, and the sooner you realize that, the sooner you will understand the real world.

After all, why should they care? They put in their 40 hours just like you, and then they go home. Protect and serve, ya right.....They are a public employee just like all the other city employees.

Risk their necks for the likes of you? ya right........It's a lot easier to pick up the pieces of a scene, then to wade in and risk injury for some idiot citizen who placed himself in harm's way. I would much rather write a report, then be questioned by an I.A. review team.

Face the facts, they are just like you.........that employee discount some people get, or that comped meal some get from a friend who owns or manages the restaurant, or that damage you get fixed even though your mods caused it.......they call it "professional courtesy"..............ticket a fellow officer? A few do, most don't. That's a fact of life, get over it.........

I've been hanging out here longer than most of you, and I've watched and listened to how the group routinely bashes cops, placing them on the same level as Ford SVT employees.

What you need to understand is they feel the same way about you.........they have terms for you, such as ****bird, scrotbag, trailer trash.........and your children? They use one word to describe them; "Doomed"...........or, "job security".........they figure if your brain dead, your offspring has no chance.

Are you shocked by this? You shouldn't be. After all, they are just like you.

Flame me if you want, but I figure what the heck. Why take the high road? I might as well speak my mind, just like you.

By the way, I want to thank all of the citizens who paid my salary, making it possible for me to enjoy the standard of living I now have, and also thank them for all the free schooling they provided, which I used immediately upon my retirement to land the job I now have............Thank you all.

your exactly what a cop shouldnt be, you are held to a higher standard, and you should respect that. You took an oath did you not? Your word means nothing to you? Its the overall hypocracy of it all that makes citizens angry. My job isnt "just a job" to me, I care about the people that I make my money off of, and so should you. You chose your line of work, its your fault if you dont care about it or the people your supposed to protect...thats a real shame, you should go be a security gaurd instead...that way no one expects anything "more" from you

Yep, cop's suck. I am a firefighter, and have not run across a decent cop yet - including state highway patrol. They always seem to have a bug up their ***, pissed off at the world, and that high and mighty attitude.

mswaim, dosha, et al.......

How many times have you badged another officer to get out of a speeding violation? I think that's where alot people get their "above the law" opinion.

Used to **** me off too until I was riding bikes with some friends who are also various law enforcement officers and they badged the group of us out of a problem with a Barney Fife in the middle of nowhweresville Kansas.

They convinced me at that time to look at it as a "perk." I also have learned not to sweat stuff I can't change and you'll never change the fact that there will always be jerks in all walks of life.

Anybody that thinks this place would be better without law enforcement needs some serious help or incarceration.

Hey, you mean the truth hurts? Sorry your so upset by the fact cops are just like you.............And I commend you for the fact you think your job "is more than a job".........

And this "oath" crap.......I swore to uphold the law, or in other words enfore the laws of the state, which I did. Treat you with more respect than you showed me? Poop on that. You reap what you sow in this world. Badmouth an entire profession, and then expect them to show you some respect? Your the one with a screw loose.

Choose the line of work? Of course I chose it, and I put in my forty hours. That's what I got paid for, that's what I gave back. Nothing more, nothing less. Care about the people I protect? Have you got a clue how stupid you sound making such a hypocritical statement? Care about a guy who badmouths me and my profession at every turn? Check that screw, it's still loose...........

Hey, I'm just telling them what they really wanted to hear.......Of course, no one cares that I had the highest narcotic and DUI arrest rate when I worked the streets. No one cares about the VCSU that I initiated as a supervisor that dramatically lowered our city's violent crimes, auto thefts and burglaries. or about my commendations and metals.

All they want to do is bash the profession and it's members even though we are part of the same "community"...........after all, isn't that what everyone here is always saying? How great the Lightning community is, and how it pulls together to support one another?

I for one am tired of trying to defend an undefendable position. Those who enjoy bashing cops will always enjoy bashing cops, so I figure why keep fighting?

I think it's a better strategy to let you in on what we really think of you, rather than the other way around...............

its not a matter of knowing the truth, everyone does. Im sure a lot of cops respect their line of work, and the honor that should go along with it. You seem to miss that ideal...and dont ever say you are "just like me" ... because your not, and you have no clue

Choose the line of work? Of course I chose it, and I put in my forty hours. That's what I got paid for, that's what I gave back. Nothing more, nothing less

very sad, you should go put your 40 hours in at the mall working security if thats all your job means to you.

Care about the people I protect? Have you got a clue how stupid you sound making such a hypocritical statement?

what makes it hypocritcal on my part? I never give cops any disrespect when they pull me over, I talk to them like I would any normal person, with reason and tact... you seem to lack both traits

Care about a guy who badmouths me and my profession at every turn? Check that screw, it's still loose...........

Your profession is an honest one, your however disgrace it by saying such a thing. Why do you think people dont like cops? because you act like we are less than human whe you deal with us (not all cops) ..when you treat a person like a child you get a negative response.

Now that is something we can agree one, however there is one undeniable difference.........the cop is the one with the gun, badge and the authority to use it............and how that plays out depends on the person on the other end of it.

Now you want to call the profession an "honest one" after you bash it...........It's a little late.

And why would I be better suited for a mall security job? What your saying is you feel all mall security guards are also working in a contemptible profession?

So let's get this straight, your not like me, but you feel comfortable bashing both law enforcement professionals and security professionals, all without the slightest thought of the fact they might be really good people doing their best.

Your right, you not like me, and you don't have a clue......you'd have to walk a mile uphill to get to my level.
