Rear end question..?

In our trucks, is the rear end a 9.75?

Is this the same as the reagular f-150's?

I have someone that has a brand new set of 3.73's that he bought for his f-150 and now he is not going to use them. So I'm going buy them from him if they will work.

So........HELP!!!!!

Will they work?

Thanks

9.75" is correct for the Lightning. Most 4x4 F-150 use the same, most 2wd use the 8.8"

Lightbulb Rear end question...?

78f1hundo;

You might reconsider on the 3:73 gear swap in your " 99 "
as the expence in doing it just doesn't justify what you might
gain from it. Some say it won't help you and your RPM will be
higher on the e-way and just eat up gas. If your buddy's truck
is a 2 wheel drive its most likely a 8.8 gear set. I'm still using 3.55
and glad I never got the 4.10 I thought I had to have! Your call
if you want it. Might want an aluminnum drive shaft instead of the gear?

I was told.....remember I'm no expert......This is one of the best mods to do if you want to go faster in the 1/4 mile for the 99's. It kind of evens the score with the 01's and up.

I don't know if what you are saying sounds right. I know of a couple of friends of mine that did this swap on the mustangs and man, what a difference.

I wish someone would chime in that has done this swap with result's........

By no means am I slamming you!

Skip the 3.73 gears go right into the 4.10s. I have a 00L and it made a huge difference. I will never go back. As for gas I haven't noticed a change but I never cared about it either

As AZ fun said, if you are set on a change, that's what I would
do!! Go to the 4:10. Hope it won't whine on ya. Must be done
by a good rear end guy that can set the gear lash right!

Cool

HI!... It doesn't matter if the truck is 4x4 or 4x2. FORD did it like this : Any F-150 with the 5.4 engine has the STERLING 9.75 rear end. The 4.2/4.6 equipped F-150's got the 8.8 rear end. The LIGHTNING and the "99" to current F-150's with the 5.4 got the exact same 9.75 rear ends and front and rear 4 wheel disc brakes with antilock at all 4 wheels. They also use the larger F-250 brake booster.
