I just replaced my Hawk HPS pads

They worked great for the first few months, but then started to make awefull noises. Recently they started to loose stopping power, escpecially before they got heat into them.

When I removed the pads, to my amazement the thin backing pads just fell off. There was still 80% off pad left, and the friction material looked good and so did my rotors. I am a little bit confused to why they failed like that.

Right on ... Quick Stop usually = Dusty ... I wouldn't
do the ceramics if your serious about racing.

I am running semi metallic CarQuest right now til
I get the BREMBO's for the birthday present ... <grin>

Then I will need the F50 pads ...

Don the thin back is for noise as well as to insulate the pad from the piston[heat related]I do know that if you do not 'use' your brakes the bedding process need to be redone so you take advantage of the material composision.
As for dusting I am with Tim You don't buy a tire with a 350 tread wear for doing open tracks with.Ceraminc is not the best for hard braking unless you can stay with its opt operating range [which is very unlikely] and then they will dust up more.I run either the hawks or the PF either one is good and can get a full day of open tracking out of either set with little wear on the rotors. Have had the Napas on for 1 week now and they feel good. I don't race at the track nor autocross. Just the occasional red-light warrior. I like'em so far and got a dela on'em at my local Napa store and they were the last set. I wouldn't go as far to say they're dust free though. Sqeaul free yes...low dust...no. A little less than stock IMO. But maybe I need to give them more time to settle in.

This may be a dumb question, but will the brake dust from the Hawk pads harm aftermarket chrome wheels?

I have heard that the dust from some pads are more harmfull than others. I just don't know the facts behind that statement...
