Go with the longblock! You've got basically every bolt-on there is, so you shouldn't have any problem running low 11's! Later down the road, bolt on that KB, and you'll be running easy 10's!

Longblock

i'm gonna be facing the same situation, and i made the decision to put a longblock when the time comes, with the stock blower. I will just put one of those serving tray size pulleys that Don has on his truck on then.

Another vote for the longblock. If you have the funds and are eventually looking for pretty low ETs, run a good foundation and come back for more later.

I dunno what your setup will eventually entail, but spraying a decent shot on top of a big pulley will net you some nice times on that built longblock while you save for that aftermarket blower.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I was definately surprised. I thought everybody was going to say S.B. and KB.
Now I have a lot of thinking to do.

Ayrton,
It would be a JDM Longblock.

yyesemheimer,

Not sure, but probaly ported heads.

Vinnie,

You gotta ask yourself....do I wanna run 10's without the juice?? If you do wanna run 10's, then you will more than likely need BOTH the longblock and blower. If you wanna run low 11's, you could go the shortblock route like I did, put the stainless steel valves in the heads, and slap on an aftermarket blower of your choice. I personally would go the shortblock/blower route. If you ever do decide to sell the truck, I doubt you would ever get your investment back from the heads and cams without removing them from the truck and selling them separately...which I think would be a royal PIA. Anyway, I will be at JDM for some new goodies and custom tuning tomorrow

Later

For what it's worth

Unless the long block uses the new 8 thread heads I would not waste money on moding those spark plug launch pad 4 thread heads. I would get a 5 angle valve job and the KB (I have a shaker hood too). Down the road I would be interested in those 3 valve heads.

If you just want to go mid 11's get the KB and short block. JL ran stock cams to get his 10.5 pass last year. I have stock cams and ran an 11.6 with the KB so far. I have the modmax ferrea valves and steel inserts and some porting in the heads. If you want to go quicker later get the LB now and a blower later.

I vote for a SB and KB = Power NOW. Heads should be getting better here with the release of the DOHC 5.4 in the new lightnings and the new 3 valve's heads. Probably get a better selection of cam's as well. Whereas the blowers may not see as much improvement over what they are now, at least in the short run.
FWIW

I ran 11.1 with the KB and I had stock cams and heads. My heads were cleaned up, but not CNC'd. I think you can hit the 10's with this setup. However, I would recommend doing the Long Block right now. I am doing heads and cams now and wish they were available when I had built my block. You will be happy with either choice.

I haven't got a clue but like to respond to your requests anyway!
If ya got the bucks it seems the LB is the way to go bro. Your truck is so awesome ya might as well go all the way! I kinda look at it this way: IMO the LB is the ultimate, with room to get more ultimate when (and you will) you want to add a (blower, nitrous, etc). Enjoy!

For what its worth dept

Vinnie after much thought on the subject, Iam going the LB route, why mess with the cams/heads later on. I mean, there will ALWAYS be something better around the corner. After seeing what Kevin's truck has run with the stock blower, thats the direction Iam going. Mine will never be a race truck, because I don't want a roll-cage.........I think

BTW........what happened to the "Iam not doing nothing more to my truck" thought??hehe
You said you where leaning towards getting a race car and tow it with the Lightning

Vinnie - long block, ported heads, cams, etc. etc.

Wait on the blower. Hopefully with all the competition blowers will come down a little in price. At least it's something to hope for

Get a shortblock for 3500.00, put Heli-Coils in your heads, buy new gaskets, and a stud kit, and you'll be done for under 4g's.

However I know you too good.
Your gonna go with one of those 15k Motors with a KB, so stop the bull schitt, order it up and sell me your shaker hood

You might as well cage it now too V because you know your gonna shoot for the 10's and get kicked out way before that.
