I had a little discussion with a Z06 owner in the General Discussion forum on this site They are cool guys, but having a pickup truck outrun their 60K sports cars gets their panties in a bunch

personally vettes don't appeal to me at all, I've always considered them kind of a "status" car, like for someone who who knows nothing about vehicles and just wants to go fast. I've met some pretty stupid vette owners, but I guess I shouldnt judge them all by the handful of dummies I've seen. As for the vette guys on that forum saying the lighting has mediocre performance? c'mon? I've humbled many vette owners in my street travels, though I am not ready for the Z06's, I pick my battles well. they are talking about out handling a truck, no sh#t!, but seriously how many of these smo's can actually take the vette to its handling limits? yeah I'd like to see some of these guys get on the open track with ruslow and see how they do. I personally like all performance vehicles, but when some arrogant people like this start talking its gets me going, you shouldn't have even posted on there, like any of them would every admit they got smoked by a lightning on the street. and I would say the 03 cobra is above and beyond a C5 and just a hair below Z06 status.

C5's are fun to run. Out of the several dozen times I've raced one I've been beated once (the guy won't race me now that I have my, ahem, CHIP). And ran door handle to door handle up to 120 with another WITH my chip.

The only Z06 I came across had fun with me on a roll, grinding gears and all. I asked him to catch a light with me and he said sure. Well the next light turned yellow and guess what, he tapped his breaks for a second then floored it. He entered the interesection on a red light. I felt jipped!

Another time a C5 pulled in behind me after a severe trash talking session at a previous light. He was the one talkin trash! Funny thing was there was a truck filled with h.s. kids and he got clowned!

Some of you have seen the vids of my truck and the black 00 c5 driven by the male cheerleader....

This past weekend we were at Hallet raceway in Oklahoma, and I got a chance to watch Vette's and all kinds of vehicles run from both the crowd and inside the vehicle. I was amazed at wut some of the cars would do. This one guy in a ZO6 could run the corners like he was on rails. To note, the Acura NSX and some Porche would run good times as well. Another neat thing is the Mazda Miata's. They will put down some impressive times. This perticular mazda just about beat a Spec car in the 6 hour enduro. The best thing of all, is at these events everyone is pretty much frendly and respect all the other cars deeply. You dont have any red neck nonsense going on. There all professionals.

I raced a Z06 once at the dragstrip. I have the video around somewhere. I had the stock blower and still smoked it pretty good. Don't get me wrong, they are more of a "sports car" than the Lightning, but I would take an 03 Cobra over one any day!

It has to suck to be beaten by a truck.

I own both a 2002 Lightning and a 2002 ZO6. A stock ZO6 will beat a stock Lightning in the quarter mile. The ZO6 weighs just a little over 3000 lbs has 405HP and is allot more aerodynamic. That being said there are many modified Lightnings that are quicker :-) When JDM finishes with my Lightning I suspect that it will be about two seconds quicker in the quarter mile then a stock ZO6

I'm glad you picked the right vehicle to mod. It would be a hard choice. Mod the Z06 and pull it to the track with the L or mod the L and park the Z06.

So am I :-) It will be a blast having a truck that is quicker then the ZO6 :-) I'm not sure that I will be completely parking the ZO6 as the handling and braking are pretty amazing.

would love...

Wish I had the money for a Z06 - a very fine car indeed... However, I need a truck for the occasional hauling ***** routine

If I could afford a Z06 and the insurance I wouldn't be on this forum right now.

I'd also take a Z06 over an 03 Cobra.

personally,
i like any car with 4 wheels that performs. i love corvettes, the ls1 is an amazing piece of engineering, definately one of the best motors around. i would rather have a trans am ws6, half the money with the same potential. dont get me wrong though. i already signed the papers my L will be my driveway when i graduate in may. just my $.02

I think people on message boards tend to say how they really feel because they are sitting behind a computer screen not actually interacting with the people they are talking to. On the other hand, when you are at an event like the one you just described and everyone is nice its because they are all actually there and dont want to make them selves look like asses(sp?). I bet if all the people that posted on that thread were at a track event they would all be nice to each other and not say one bad thing about anyones elses car/truck. At least thats what I think...
