Hi Fast Gator,

Yah that is my baby… Wish I could have been there – you are lucky being so close to JDM :-) I don’t know about an understatement but it will certainly be quick. Will be at JDM towards the end of the project sometime in April – hope to see you there.

However, I PERSONALLY have seen bone stock 02 Z06s, i mean on stock tires and all, go 11.8@116 +...

Hi James,

I made that statement with the thought that a stock ZO6 with a good driver will turn mid to low 12’s in the quarter. Never heard of a stock ZO6 running in the 11’s but wouldn’t be surprised

Hi Bill,

Have been meaning to get a hold of you and say hi but been really busy at work. I live in Kennebunk only about twenty-five minutes away :-) Sounds like you are going to have an awesome truck, we will definitely have to get together at New England dragway this summer. How long until your truck is finished? That is going to be awesome with four valve per cylinder heads :-) Look forward to meeting you

Wink

Steve,
I will have it back this weekend and Jim and I will release all of the details on Sunday or Monday of the finished project.
There will be a few fast Lightnings this year at Epping with you, Don, and myself all with built motors and aftermarket blowers.
It will be a fun season for sure.
Talk to you soon,
Bill

One fact remains constant. Both the 2nd generation Lightning and the 03 Cobras can thank Ford for bolting a S/C on for the power they make. The Z06 is making it's power the old fashion way. However, I differ on the statement that no other vehicle is capable of cutting 1 1/2 seconds with a CAI, chip and pulley combo. if you add that mix to the new 03 Cobra, you will cut alot more than that off your time. Add to that the solidly built lower end and you have the basis for tons of daily usable power.

Whew too much crap-slinging for me on that corvette forum (Dan, the folks over at zo6vette.com are much more appreciative of other vehicles...)

I think comparing these particular two vehicles is an exercise in futility, but both have their own unique merits

DB: I wasn't comparing them, just sticking up for some pickup trucks that aren't pos. I post over there to keep them honest and to provide factual info on our Ls. There is so much misunderstanding(or lying?) on the LS1/6/C5 BBs that I just want to spread 'the word' and let them know they MIGHT get whupped-on once in a while from a 4700+ lb. 'brick' --and, if we lose, that's OK too.

I know you weren't , I was just poking fun at some of the internet 'racers' over there with their laughable opinions. I agree most don't have a realistic idea of what performance levels can be had with a Lightning...

Not trying to hype up the buicks here, just presenting Lightningquick with some facts....and if it weren't for the GrandNational he listed I would agree whole heartedly with his statement.
My comment was a generalized statement.

And you are WRONG,Not all grand nationals would run 13.8...There are many tracks with traction issues.Just like not all lightnings run 13.6 stock.....

Ive been racing LONG before i bought my ( 3 genration 2 Lightnings )and i know EXACTLY what cars run.

Dont get your panties in a bunch.........

I am VERY familiar with how cheap you can turn up the boost on turbo cars not just GNs...............

It is wisest not to brag about cars not intended for that forum. It will always start a flaming thread. I have owned and raced both cars. Yes I set faster lap times in my Lightning but that is due to setup and familiarity. The vette will corner slightly faster in some turns but the truck can out stop and out power the Vette entering and leaveing the turn. Now if I spent the same 8K dollars in suspension on the car with Brembos, Hotchkis bars, QA1 shocks it would be faster no question. I should have a little over $50K in the truck by June. I only have $34K in the car

That is such BS, Z06 does it the old fashion way? what the hell is old fashion about a zo6 and its motor? bla bla bla well if so and so car had a turbo/blower it would be faster bla bla bla, yeah and if I was 7ft tall and black I would be in the NBA. well supras and GN's have turbos, but if a Z06 gets its *** handed to them by one it doesn't count b/c they have a turbo, right? that line and way of thinking is getting old.

V8, muscle. So be careful with the late model Z's, a good driver in them will give a lot of you guys a good run from a roll. its tough to beat an L from a dig in anythin manual without sticky rubber. jmtc
I don't doubt that you have seen quick z06's on the 1320,or that they beat stock L's, but at my two local strips that are 7-800 above sea level, high humidity and barometer readings that almost never see 30....the two 405 badged z06's i have seen both run 12.70's@ 115 or about 7or8 car lengths behind my L.
Having said that, they are impressive stock and one of the owners got his for GM employee price of around 44k.

A new zo6 is one of the only vettes that i would like to own......someday maybe
