Well if you dont care if you loose the fatory remotes have a place like circuit city install one for you. They did my aftermarket remote start and that was over 2 years ago and stil using the same batteries with range that makes the factory look like a joke. I paid around $200 installed and that included using the same new remote to work the factory lock, unlock, and panic. I have had it for 2 years now and not had a problem yet. I won't own another vehicle in Michigan without a remote start now. It's well worth the investment.

thats what i did with my Trans am and i got everything. Alarm, keyless entry, 2 key pads, and remote start for way less than $350...
I dont mind losing the factory keypad as long as the new (viper or whatever brand) key pad will lock and unlock my doors... I dont want to have 2 keypads and i didn't with my ta... so i shouldnt with my L
I really liked remote start mainly becuase i like to hear my exhaust and the rumble of my pipes when i'd walk up to my trans am. Other than that i dont NEEd remote start. But now i have exhaust on my truck, i wanna hear how it sounds more and more while im on the outside of it even though its only for a few seconds... Any tips for alarms/remote starters i can get.. thanks, Shane

I like the Ford factory parts. I just think it would be better built.

Ford doesn't even build these parts. They spec out a part and then put it out to bid for companies to make. The dealers usually have a huge mark up on these sort of items and their personel have limited training compared to a top Car Stereo and Alarm shop.

If it were mine, I would go to a highly rated Car Stereo shop and have an alarm system installed with all the features you want (remote entry, paging, car starting, auto locks, auto window roll up etc.). The options are pretty much unlimited and most will give you a life time gaurantee on the install. You will also have a much better and complete system that anything Ford can put together. I've been very happy with my Clifford Intelligaurd 7000.

Is that the newest one that will vibrate for you if someone
comes near the car? Of Course, I AM a little biased toward
Clifford ....

I thought I read somewhere that the Ford remote start was a re-badged Code-Alarm unit. I have an old Code-Alarm unit that I orginally had the dealer install. It started out on a leased 2000 Explorer. I have since had it on an Escape and now on my F150. Each time I take it back to the dealer and he does the swap. The dealer charges around $100 to swap things around, but I know in the end it will be done right.

It might be an option, but I don't have that on mine. It may be standard on the Avant Guard4, which is one of the most sophisticated alarm systems available.

My Gold system came with 2 remotes,I have the orgs for backup if my others go out I still can get in the truck with a remote, the org remote will work too disable the alarm but no remote start. I had the system installed in 2003 when I got the truck and it works great. My dealer had some trouble with the install, but got it worked out.The only thing is the key pad sets it off some times when you try to use it.

I went to a shop last week and the owner said they could install the Clifford/Python alarm (whichever one I want) with remote start for $550....and that includes everything...remote start, glass breakage, vehicle tilt, back-up battery (hidden), you name it....this alarm has it. He told me the cliiford also comes with a pager to notify you if your car is messed with. Not sure if I need that..... I don't usually leave my baby out and about for too long.

It misses me right now.......
