LED taillights

I want to try some LEDs in my new taillights. I'm looking for some super-bright white LEDs that will fit. Does anyone know the stock bulb specs?

On my motorcycle, it uses an 1157. Is it the same for cars?

Thanks,

The largest problem is most LEDs are designed for one angle only. They do not get any light from the sides, only from the rear.

This applies to APC, the motion lights and just about all other LEDs out there.

I have found ONE company that makes LED's with peripheral lights (gosh, bad spelling). But I have not gotten the time to try them out yet:

Wedge LED lamps

I have a friend who has them, and they work as advertised...

Here is the problem: these are only offered in red. When you take a red LED and send it through a colored lense, the output drops. When sending through a colored lense, white is best.

I am not concerned with peripheral output for two reasons: (1) brake lights only need to be seen from the rear, and (2) I think that the faceted lenses would provide enough diffraction to illuminate the rear.

Any other leads?

Thanks,

TLS

p.s. -- what are you running for open track tires, Daniel?

Tim --

You used to be able to custom color order white bulbs from that place...dunno if you still can. The other place I knew of that sold great bulbs was "Hz Engineering", but they seem to have disappeared off the net, though I found a page over here : www.hzengineering.com ... its just slow. They also sell the flasher-load kits to keep the blinker at the correct speed.

For track tires, I'm still using up my stock of BFS R1-As that I bought from TireRack when they were dumping them for $100/tire. After that, I think I'm going to try running Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-CS tires.

I got to go with what ThePawn said too... I tried them and took them back... You may not think the lack of peripheral light is a problem until you put them in... the standard bulb does this and the LED's don't... it just didn't look good at all.
