FYI -

When I was doing a large pan swap in my SS last year I was switching to Mobil 1 ATF and didn't want to drain the verter - I was told the two fluids will blend just fine -

But, I'm a stickler about this kind of thing so I called Mobil directly and spoke to a Mobil 1 tech that told me YOU CAN mix the two fluids with NO ill effect at all...

Thanks for the input.

Anyone else have an opinion / experience?

It's fine to mix them. If you want to get it all, you need to have it flushed, even if you drain the converter, there are about 2 quarts in the clutches and the wormtrail, as anyone who's dropped the accumulator can tell you. What I would do is drop the pan and change the accumulator, and if you're careful about a clean pan etc... poor the old fluid back in, then take ti and have it flushed and filled with Mobil 1.

No sweat on the earlier post, I was joking, too. I knwo a few people who do get kinda touchy about Amsoil etc.. I get dirty mail and death threats (kidding!!) about it every time I mention it, apparantly they have a psuedo-religion/distributor network, it's kinda like bringing drugs, booze, loose women and **** to a tent revival.

Amsoil sales practices

It's like AmWay - touchy-feeley - where they try to make you feel like your part of one big happy family (The Osmonds) ...

Or Mary Kay cosmetics - hahahaha

Thanks for the reply, Gregg. You can disregard my post over on NLOC (if you haven't seen it yet).

You mean I was wrong to bring a six-pack to the revival?

I'm getting ready to install my FTVB this weeekend as well. I have an idea, not sure if it will work... I may be way off. Here goes.

To "flush" all the fluid out, could I force air from an air compressor through the system via a tranny cooler line to flush out all the fluid?
Would it be bad to have air in the tranny system? Also I know compressed air does have moisture in it, I think I can get a moisture filter for the compressor though.

I did this with a Waverunner that had bad gas, instead of taking out the tank, or syphining it out, I just forced air in to a fuel line and ran another fuel line into a empty tank, it was empty in a few minutes...worked really well for that.

Is this a crazy idea? I would not want to mess it up.
I think I may just drain tranny and the converter and replace with Mobil 1 ATF since they are compatible...

Thanks

Oh yeah... Have a Happy Birthday Dan!

TTT

I would think it'd be fine if you turn your pressure regulator down low and keep from doing anything more than just moving fluid.

FT's the real expert though...

air...

I wouldn't do that - I'm no expert but I'd be afraid that some of the tiny springs - ***** might be in jeapody with highly compressed air ...

Egads, no don't do that, it could blow the solenoids out, blow air into the wormtrail, geez, the list of things it could hurt is just too long to post, and it's wouldn't get all the fluid anyhow. You can do this, though.

Thanks Gregg...
I kinda knew it was a crazy idea but just thought I would ask since it worked so great for the Waverunner fuel tank flush.
Thanks for the link. I may try that or just let the stock and Mobil 1 ATF fluids mix since you said they are compatible. I can't wait to get it installed
