Thumbs up Have everything I need for the VB install!

Received the F/T Valve Body last Wednesday. Thanks, Chickenears! Received my deep trans pan / filter today. Thanks, PSP!

Picked up a gasket, Inch/Pounds torque wrench. 8 quarts of Mobil 1 fluid.

Unless it's still 10 degrees this weekend, I'll be doing it either Saturday or Sunday! If I do it Saturday, I might still be s-faced from Friday night. It's my birthday.

I'll post results when I'm done!

See ya'

Dan

Unless I am mistaken 8 quarts of Mobil 1 isn't going to get it done for you. If you're switching to the Mobil 1 synthetic synthetic you're going to need a lot more than 8 quarts to flush out all of the current tranny fluid (Mercon/Dextron III) unless you have already switched. Eight quarts added to the stock tranny fluid would give you a nice mix of fluids which may not be the hot ticket.

also remember to drain the torque converter. Remove the rubber inspection cap at the bottom of the tranny and rotate the torque converter untill you see the little plug through the inspection hole.
remove it and let it drain.

Tranny pan just in case.

Tim..Saw the post!! HA HA.

Thanks for the other suggestions about flushing out ALL of the old fluid. I hadn't thought of that at all with regards to switching to the Mobil 1.

Thanks!!

When I installed the Factory_Tech valve body I switched to synthetic ATF. But I went with Amsoil, the fluid that Factory_Tech seems to have a problem with. I THINK it might have something to do with him getting a free sample of Mobil 1 ATF, but who knows. I am sure Gregg will chime in and tell me Iam full of crap. BTW... something like 14 qts of fluid with the torque convertor drain

Oh man, that was harsh. I've said many times the ONLY reason I use Mobil 1 is that I do get it for free. I just think (and this is my opinion only) that the "designer fluids" are expensive bottels and generic type fluid. If I was paying for it I'd use Motorcraft MERCON, unless I lived in a year round hot climate, and then I'd spring for the Mobil 1 becaue it stands up to heat better. My only thing about Amsoil is that it claims to be both MERCON and MERCON V compliant, and I'm under the understanding that Modified Friction fluids (MERCON V) and regualr fluid are not compatible, and no one has yet expained to me how one can be both. I've asked, but they won't answer.

Iam truely sorry for sounding like a smart azz. I was trying to make a joke and it bit me on the azz. Thats the bad thing about internet boards, the true emotion can't be typed as it is spoken.

btw....I will leave my orginal post un-edited, so everyone can see what an *** I am
Sent you an e-mail this morning

Just want to get some clarification on draining vs. flushing. If I pull the pan, and drain the torque converter is that considered a full drain and or flush?

I'm not sure what was done fluid-wise when the previous owner had the line mod valve put in, so I want to make sure I'm 'fully' synthetic.

Oh yeah..Looks like another 6 qts of Mobil 1. Damn fluid is gonna cost more than the valve body!!

Thanks again..

Dan

Draining is just that, putting a pan under the trans/convertor, and draining. Flushing is taking it to a shop that has a machine that "flushes" all the old fluid out, from the lines, cooler, etc.
I believe Grease Monkey by the mall in woodbridge can do this

The flush is probably be the best bet. I had a plug on my convertor, but I remember Factory_Tech saying there was a change in middle year on the 01 run and eliminated the drain plug, I think

I hate to beat a dead horse here but I just want to make sure I cover all my bases regarding switching to Mobil 1 ATF.

Here are two scenarios which I THINK I have the choice of doing:

SCENARIO #1:

1) Bring the truck to a shop and have it 'flushed'. Have them refill with Mobil One.

2) Drain, install VB, new pan/filter and REFILL with Mobil One.

YIKES..Expensive

SCENARIO #2:

1) Pull pan. If my converter has one, pull the drain plug and drain fluid from converter.

2) Install VB, new pan/filter and REFILL with Mobil One.

Would this method suffice I.E. be SAFE assuming I can drain the converter? Or would you suggest Scenario #1. I don't want to cut corners, but then again, Mobil One aint cheap.

SCENARIO #3:

1) Just use Motorcraft Mercon again..ASSUMING that the previous owner didn't put Synthetic in.

WOW. My head is spinning now.

Any feedback is appreciated, as always.

Thanks..

Dan
