Building a L poser..Have some questions

Since I have changed so much ***** on my truck and I have all this stock L stuff laying around I have decided to help make my brothers F-150 an L poser.(There will be NO L emblems)
He already has my wheels and I am giving him my exhaust,my extra grille surround w/grille, my extra bumper cover w/ spare fog lights and grille, my shackles and springs and whatever else I have laying around.

Couple questions- When we go to put to put on the bumper cover(he sold his bumper) will it just bolt on or does it need to have a bumper on it. In other words when he takes off the bumper can we just bolt on the cover or is there something we need?

here is a pic of L in Detroits L without a bumper, is this what a reg f-150 looks like without a bumper?

Here is my bros truck

If he had a steel bumper and took it off I am guessing you need a support for behind the Lightning bumper cover. I am not 100% but that would be my first guess. -Mat-

Yes you need a bumper....hence the name bumper COVER. The L bumoer cover/valence bolts on via a coupla brackets. and the actual bumper minus the pads and lower valence is the structual support.

That is what I thought.

I want to lose the stock bumper to shave some weight off, so how can I use the Lightning cover without having to retain the bumper? Can I not fabricate some sort of bracket?

Probably but it would be a lot of work and be fairly flimsy w/o support....wouldnt trust it at high speeds...the ONLY thig I could think of is use some aluminum tubing bent and shaped and weld something to the shape of the original bumper and weld some brackets. So it would be like tracing or outling the original bumper in aluminum tubing. I would not trust that however in any type of impact. I would imagine you would have to replace it everytime you bumped a parkin curb

I guess I will try and come up with something, as the truck will be apart in the next couple of weeks. I am not so worried about damage, because if I get hit, the stock bumper would just get bent as well.

Yes the stock bumper would get bent as well but because it is designed to have some structural integrity would protect everything BEHIND the bumper. Likely to drop an engine bust a radiator and damge hoods and fenders w/ no structural brace or impact zone.

Using this truck as an example. If you take the bumper off will there still be what is on L in Detroits truck.

Is what is on the F-150 also be considered a bumper cover?

L in DETRIOTS L minus cover

There is a steel bumper support behind the Lightning's urethane cover and a couple small composite pieces for the corners of the cover. On your brother's truck just unbolt the bumper from the frame rails ( 4 bolts total ) unbolt the steel reinforcement from the factory chrome bumper and transfer it over to the Lightning cover. You'll need a few plastic trim clips and a few small trim screws but that should be it.

I'll send you the composite supports today or tomorrow Mr. V.
I forgot all about them

Put the Lightning emblems on the truck, make it look real. Then it will make it easier for the real Lightning to get some street races!

I might be able to help with the lower grille if your brother needs that piece
