Question What did I do wrong?

First off I'm not one for street racing but I wanted to give it a try. So coming home tonight there was a TRD celica behind me and he was following pretty close so i gave the L some gas and walked away from him but when I put on my brakes he was right on my a$$ again. So I figured he would try to pass me on the open straight away right up ahead and sure enough he stayed far enough back that he could get a running start and when we hit the straight away he got over to try to pass. At this point I was still doing 50 and he was at my door so i figured i would give it a go. I hit the gas about 3/4's of the way down and started to pull on him but i was only at his passinger door when we had to slow down. Now I know the L dosn't have very good top end but I figured I should walk him no problem. So what happend should I have given it gas before he got to my door or what. I'm just really pissed off right now because I know he probely think he took an L no problem. Sorry for the long post but I'm just venting but i guess it's time to start modding.

One thing I have learned. If you are going to Race , then RACE.
Otherwise you will regret it later.

Thumbs down street racing.

These kids floored it, asked them if they won the race. Oh wait you can't, they are dead.

I'm sure 1/2 those cases involved inebriation of some type of drug not to mention carelessness. When us L users give it some juice to defend our L's honor we do it with upmost attention to safety!

I cringe everytime i read a thread like this. I troll the L boards often, im not an owner, just an enthusiast. Prior to 'fixing' people, i worked as a mechanic and fixed cars so i like to keep up to date on what all of you guys do to your trucks. I try not to post often on this board as it is not my place, however I feel that if posting these pics will keep one person from street racing, it is so worth it. Street racing will never go away, i understand that, but as stated before, just think about what you are about to do, the risks and such, if not for you, do it for the family of 4 coming home from the movies that were killed by street racing, Id post those pics, however they are far too graphic for this site. Please, we are all adults, take it to the track, please people?

FYI

Ok, L owners are exempt from crashing and doing wrong in street racing, however Unoid, the guy you are racing, if he loses it and dies, or worse, if he loses it and kills someone else? Guess who else is going to jail???? Yes, that would be the "other racer", and the police dont care what you drive. Stay safe out there.

If you go to the track, you assume the risk and the possibility of a crash, that goes without saying. However the family of four and their Dodge Caravan typically do not drive on a 1/4 mile track, therefore if the kids racing had been on a track, that family would still be alive today. Dont get me wrong, if someone perishes on the track that is none the less tragic, however it is a risk that YOU assume.

pgh_medic,

You have some good points. Many people don't like to street race, but adrenaline (sp?) takes over your mind when it comes to things like that...
