Question Need Help / Issues With Silver Bullet Catback

I just recently got my new silver bullet cat-back in the mail from JDM, and I couldn't wait to get it installed, because putting it on wasn't a job for me. It was pckaged great, the tips shined and everyhting looked really great. Well I drove to a muffler shop today, and the owner came out and said for 35 bucks he'd put it on, and he could do it right then, needless to say I was ecstatic. Well I am sitting in the shop glancing out the window watching them put the new shiny mufflers on, when he gets this puzzled look on his face and I walk out to the truck. When he turns to me and says, sorry man this thing doesn't fit, its not even close. I was crushed, my first "mod" isn't workin'. Turns out to get this system to work he would have to cut the two tailpipes in half (they are welded together), seperate them and remove the hanger and reweld and bend the pipes and then put the whole system back together. More money and more problems, I elected to wait to put the new system in, so he put the stocker back on for me, so I could see what you guys recommend, is this normal for the pipes to have to be re-cut and re-welded? He was a really nice guy, the owner in fact was the one who tried to put it on for me, so I know it wasn't their fault. But what do you guys recommend, because I am at a loss here, I don't want to cut this up because it says direct bolt-on right on the cover of the directions, and rewleding will ruin the whole look of it, so what do I do? Is this a normal for it to have to be re-cut? Any opinions or comments would really be appreciated, should I request a new exhaust or have the place just chop it up to fit? I am totally new at this stuff so I don't know what to do at this point, so pleace help. This is in no way vendor bashing of any kind so please do not leave any unhelpful comments, I need this thread to stay open so I can figure out what to do. Thanks again to all that respond. Once again, I am not vendor bashing nor do I want anyone to vendor bash on this thread, just helpful comments. Thank you.

-Patrick

When I installed my silver bullit, The only extra thing I had to do,
was bend the hanger just behind the mufflers down to get the tips to fit well in the opening. The only other small issue I had was the pipe overlap at the "x"pipes on one side was very little.
It still clamped, but not as good as it could be.
Other then that it was a decent fit, no cutting required.

Sounds like you need to lay that out on the ground (on a blanket of something ) and take some pictures and let someone on the board here that knows what it is supposed to look like take a look at it. that sounds kinda crazy that it could be that wrong.

BigDog,

Is the guy putting the X-pipe that is attached to the muffler towards the cat side (front) or to the back side of the truck? A customer had this same problem a couple weeks ago and it turned out it was this very problem.

Let me know,

Justin@JDM

FL- Something is for sure wrong. There is no way that the cat-back should have to be cut. They guy must not be putting the system together correctly. Did he by chance read the directions? They are step by step so I can't see how he could be off that much unless he didn't read them at all!

We both (the owner and I) stodd under the truck and looked at the pipes and the directions, and we both agreed with the shape of the pipes, it won't fit, nor when we put the pipes on the huge and very cool looking tail pipes won't stick far enough out the side of the faschia under the car, it would melt the plastic pieces oin the sides, it was very weird. The pipes almost seemed to short also. I know JDM makes great products but my guess is the pipe was not bent enough when they molded it and it might have gotten overlooked?

FL- I had the same problem with mine the tips were cut too short. I am currently waiting on my replacements. If the only thing is wrong with the fitment is the exhaust tips then you might be in the same boat as me. But if it's way off then something is wrong. Mine fit perfect except for the exhaust tips were about 3/4 of an inch too short. So basically the exhaust tips were almost even with the side molding.

Yeah the x-pipe and muffler set up looked great and fit (with SOME effort ), but the tailpipes didn't line up to connect them, and when we held it up just to see how it would look, without even being fitted yet the tailpipes wouldn't fit out far enough under the truck for you to see them, and they were at a weird angle too. Hopefully this will help.

Without actually seeing the setup it's hard to tell. You probably should just call JDM and have them walk you though it!

Don't know if you already tried this, but if you loosen up the exhaust pipe coming from the passenger side leading to the x-pipe you will gain some play in positioning the cat back system.
You shouldn't have to cut and or weld anything. This is truly a direct bolt on.
As you describe it though it does sound quite far off so the above might not help, oh well just a thought.

I have a different JDM c/b--with the single Magnaflow and an internal x-pipe so my experience may be different from yours.

The only thing my exhaust guy had to do(and JDM told me this would be necessary) other than hang it up and weld it on was to loosen the rt.side manifold-to-pipe connection(ball-joint type) and move the pipe to the rt. slightly so the pipe would fit to the muffler entrance pipe. Other than that, it was slip, hang up 'deal'. The end pipes and tips fit perfectly. Hope you get the 'answer' you need .

This is why i install everything myself. Not every person working at a muffler shop is exactly the smartest guy. At any rate im sure its something as small as loosening up the passenger side cat pipe to give you some play. Like already suggested, lay the system out on a blanket and snap some pics.

Well, it took me a long time (8 1/2 hours) doing mine and working alone but the one saving grace of the whole deal was the new system went together absolutely flawlessly. If it hadn't, I probably would have shot the truck and walked away.
