I knew something was messed up here, this is really dissapointing. Now I am gonna have to pay to ship this thing back. I almost don't even want it anymore, and why do you guys have different mufflers than mine?

I was wondering the same thing. actually when I bought the kit I thought that it was going to come with two small mufflers like yours, but I never gave it a second thought after it arrived. but now that you mention it, I remember seeing your mufflers before. maybe on their website?

on a brighter note, I like the sound of my exhaust much better now than I initially did. it has definately grown on me.

I'm sure they'll take care of you. don't give up yet.

later,
chris

BigDog- Don't worry JDM will take care of ya. You have the Silver Bullet cat-back which comes with the oval Magnaflow mufflers (Louder) and Superford has the complete exhaust system which comes with the not as loud mufflers. Once you get it installed you will love it!!

well -

I had the same problem (EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM) this past Wednesday and had to pay extra to fabricate new piping from the mufflers back ...

Jim said the front pipe needed to be loosened to make it fit - that maybe true - but personally I don't think you should have to go through all that to make a cat back fit ... and I don't think that would have solved the problem anyway.

I voiced my concern to him (Jim) in an email - then he called me and stated he had sold 700 plus systems and never had a problem in the past. Well maybe it's a problem specific to 03's which is what I told him. It seems as I read these posts that other people have had problems with this system and now another with the very same problem I experienced.

As it stands now everything is on and welded up with all new hangers and tight as a drum my only bitch is the oval mufflers are welded up on a 90 degree angle instead of the way superfords shows his - straight and completely horizontal with the truck.

I wasn't going to post this (as I emailed FLBIGDOG) and explained all that happened to me and how it was a carbon copy of my experience on Wednesday. However, since I have seen others have had problems I thought it is in the best interest of the group to make everyone aware that there may be a problem with these cat backs that may or may not be specific to 03's ...

I am dead set against those that bash legitimate vendors and didn't want it to appear that anyone was bashing anyone here. Jim told me that he would make my system right for me anytime I wanted to come down to his shop (I'm about 4 hours away). I believe him and eventually when I get the chance will do just that. This is not a big deal for me as I was going to put the whole headers and free flowing cats on in the very near future and will have them do the install at which time they can fix this.

However, if in fact these systems will bolt up properly to 03's with loosening the head pipe then at the very least his instruction book should be changed and that section should be highlighted in bold text or something so others don't have this problem... The importance of loosening those head bolts and front pipe should be explained in much better detail... sorry for the long post...

My tail pipes wouldnt fit in the mufflers either. They wernt off by much but they wouldnt fit. The muffer shop that I was useing had to bend the pipes to get them to fit. Luckly they didnt charge any extra to do that.

one other thing about this picture and these two tubes being crooked or not laying down flat:

I was just looking at the JDM website and found this picture. I knew I had seen those tubular mufflers somewhere. anyway, it appears as though with those mufflers, your pipes are supposed to be uneven. look and see what I mean:

also, I now understand that these pipes are crooked like that because the factory pipes are not even, they are at an angle. see how they enter the muffler, the outboard or passenger side tube enters higher than the inboard/driver side tube. look here:

(lightbulb on) that is why your pipes look different than some others (like mine), if you buy just the cat back, the mufflers and x-pipe have to be at an angle due to the positioning of the factory cat pipes being angled. but if you buy the entire exhaust system with the headers and high flow cats, then the system is straight and the pipes are even, that is why my mufflers are straight up and down instead of angled like others and like my old bassanni cat back.

I really hadn't though about it before. we need a little smilie with an idea lightbulb popping up over his head, so when I finally figure something out I can use it!

anyway, just a little more info.

good luck

later,
chris

Also If I remember right on the one I saw, THe hanger on that system is part of the U-bolt, its not welded to it, The piece welded to it is just to hold those pipes together....

superford, what made you go from when you had a bassani on your first truck to using a silverbullet exhaust on your second, what made you switch?

Wait... Not to sure if this has been covered or not. With the stock mid pipes there is a 10mm bolt you have to lossen up to move the stock pipes some. This plays into any catback. Maybe thats your problem, also Like SUPERFORDS said, you will have a uneven looking setup with the stock pipes, I have long tubes & midpipes made for a bassani which does not go straight up and down either.....

a combination of things. I LOVED the bassani sound on my red truck, but everyone with the Silver Bullet was telling me that they loved theirs just as much and how awesome it sounded.

also, everyone said that the Silver Bullet supposedly had equal quality and a significantly lower price.

AND THEN, JDM put the SB on sale for Christmas, so I just decided to give the SB a try. then when I had them on the phone, I just said screw it and ordered the whole thing with the long tubes and cats and all.

that's why I switched.

Sounds like either the tips got bent in shipment OR the tips section is made for the twin round mufflers not the ovals...
