Throttle stuck open or something? What happend?

I was driving home tonight and pushed on the gas a bit. The light ahead turned red so I got off the gas and onto the brakes. It felt like my brakes where not working but I soon realized that’s because my engine was revving trying to move the truck. I pressed as hard as I could on the brakes and slowed the truck down then put it into Neutral. The RPM climbed to about 2300rpm and stayed there. I tapped the throttle a few times it would rev up but not go bellow 2300rpm. I did this a few more times and finally mashed the pedal down quickly and quickly let go and finally the RPM went down to 800. Its 0 degrees outside but I park in a heated garage so there is no way it is because of the cold. I don’t know if the throttle cable stuck or if it was computer related. The only thing I did do right before the light turned red is turn on the “over drive” exactly as I went off the gas and onto the brakes. Could I have provoked a computer glitch or something? Oh I was also low on gas(This happend at the light right before the gas statiom). Maybe the car was going to stall and the computer tried to bring the revs up? Never heard of that before?? Any one ever have this happen to them?

I looked onder the hood and there is no grease or anything around the throttle cable to make it stick. The truck only has 6000 miles on it.

Stock TB. The only mods are 6# pulley, Diablo chip and Denso IT22 plugs.

LMAO. Only mods....

Take a look at your throttle body and the linkages. There could be something stuck to keep it slightly open, or there could be something wrong with your throttle cable.

I don't understand....did you mean you turned the o/d 'off' as it's 'on' all the time?

I turned my o/d 'off' as I was approaching a rt/hand turn and when I got back on the throttle(at the apex), my eng. turned off. When i flipped it inti 'neutral' and restarted it, the o/d light started blinking. Got home and did a 'battery-disconnect' and it's been OK. My problem was a chip loosing grip onto the PCM. Another chip fixed that.

Because it was so cold. perhaps you got 'intake, th/body iceing'? D/k if this can happen with our engs. but I've heard of it a long time ago on other engs.

What?? Its only 3 mods And the plugs are not even a mod.. More of a safety thing

I drove another 15 miles after getting out of the gas station and it is fine now. If there was anything in the TB not allowing the blades to close then it must be sucked into the motor now

NO I mean I turned the over drive back on. I had turned it off a few miles before.

Hmmm it could be the chip coming lose but it seems fine now. I dont see how the chip would get pushed back in. Still though it is possible. I will check the chip tomorrow to make sure it is in well.

I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!!

I changed my throttle body this weekend to an Accu-fab and was very disappointed to find my gas cable already has fraid broken strains on the steel cable. It's a 02 with 8k on it. You may want to check that, it'll take you 2 seconds to do

Man... I'd chit my pants if my throttle got stuck... but now that I think about it, I reminded myself that if that ever happens I should throw it in neutral just like ya did...

Ya it depends on just where the throttle is stuck. If it is stuck wide open then just reach for the key and shut her off In my case it was only reving to 2300 or so, so I wanted to see what was going on so I didnt shut the truck off.

Well I checked the cables and they are in perfect condition. I took the rubber bellow off and looked into the T/B and all is fine.
On a non related issue while I was looking at all this stuff I noticed my air filter box was not on right. The top half of the box (The lid) was not seated well so there was a gap I inhooked the 3 hatches Slid the lid off then put it back on properly.
