What they do is "void the powertrain warranty"
It happens everyday.
Your door latch is still under warranty BUT once the negative entry is in thier system your truck is scrutinized for anything everytime...
Essentially, they refuse to pay for the repairs ( for that job ) and make an entry in their system about the incident to keep from dealer shopping the job. That same entry means that NO delaer will ever warranty anything on the engine or trans.
If the truck is a daily driver and you are NOT an attorney they have you by the short hairs.
They can and do make those calls for everything from k&N filters to airbox mods to 20" rims to you name it. And they get away with it. It is their system and they play it well...

Getting a judgment is expensive. Getting a worthless judgment is REALLY expensive.

But I suggest that the only way that they "get away with it" is because the customer LETS THEM get away with it. I would like to hear from anyone who has pursued the avenues I enumerated above and still been unsuccessful when the dealership is clearly in the wrong. Even before I was a lawyer, I would not have accepted the dealership's decision.
I learned this from my father. For a 1972 Buick (back in the days of 12/12,000 warranties), he was getting "warranty work" when he had tens of thousands of miles on the vehicle by simply refusing to accept the BS peddled by the dealership.
Never underestimate the power of the squeaky wheel.
A cigar in the ashtray.
Since everyone that knows me, knows that I always put my cigar in the ashtray before I hit the staging lights, it's obvious that I have been racing and racing may void your warranty so be sure and take the cigar out of the ashtray before you go in for service.

If it wasnt a known issue that has gone bad twice already I wouldnt consider tryinig to get it warrantied BUT this is a known issue and clearly my truck has it bad...

i prefere the portafino mod to the macanudo..hehe jk
i wish!! man id be woppin up on everyone with my 4 sec truck!!
man Tim this is great info, ive always been afraid of the dealers, the only problem is that im probably not firm enough unless im really pissed (and thats not good)
the funny thing is, Westway ford (dealer next door to my house) has a proshop that installs airraid filter kits and other things like like exhaust and stuff. how can they void warranty on stuff that they installed? or would they overlook that stuff?
If the door latch breaks, I don't care if you have installed a 5,000 HP top fuel engine--the door latch gets fixed.
