Unhappy Thoughts On 5# Lower And A 75hp Shot Of Nitrous??

I am currently running a 3# lower and a 75hp NX shot and was thinking of upgrading to a 5# lower to go along with the 75hp NX shot. I was wondering what you guys think of this combination and if it is too much for the factory rods to handle?

well depending on the numbers your running now, i think the stock rods will handle about 500 on a 99-00

Stressed a rod with a 2Lb lower and a 100 shot on our truck... I'd only imagen it would be worse with a 5Lb lower and a 75 shot.

Who or what are you trying to catch?. I would say do it and the film it at the track and post it is a quicktime. I would like to see what the 1/4 mile time with those mods.

Yeah I am not sure which way to go here either. On one hand 3 other L owners that I know run a 5# lower with a 75hp shot and have had zero problems. 10secL is running a 5# lower and a 100hp shot and drives it like he stole it and has no problems either. But with my luck one pass and the rods would be seeing daylight!! Maybe I should leave well enough alone. Or maybe just run the 5# lower with a 50hp shot?? Any suggestions?

i think you should just work on traction, and cooling

traction bars
panhard bar
REM intake tube
JDM heat exchanger
JLP power cooler
port&polish super charger w/dremel

thats what i'd get if i had the money and had your setup, other then the dremeling, thats cheep.

Dude, I already told you...Don't be a wuss!!! Go for it if thats what you want to do, if not then you'll just be left wondering!!!
I'm running 5#'s extra w/75!!! Its no big deal!!! If you blow a rod you'll have a good reason to get a built shortblock and go even faster!!!!

It may handle it, it may not....

How soon you want to find out how much if will handle is the key....

Go for it. Then spend the next few weekends cleaning under the truck, getting rid of all the oil that covers everything. j/k

I know Keiths truck has been running strong with that 100 shot and 5lber. Do It!!! Stop asking questions.

I have decided to go with a 5# lower and a 50hp shot. This should put me in the 11.80-11.90 range. I probably will have to keep a close check on my TR6's though with this combination.

i would do a 4# and a 100 shot instead since the nitrous is something you can "turn off"...

HANKFAN, how are you running now with your mods, the 3# lower and the 75 shot? I think thats about the safest you can get. But i dont know much about what we got internaly in our L's and i want to keep it thatway. I have a 4# lower and have thought myself about putting on a 75 shot... Bottom line is, i havent done it so far because i dont have the ***** to do it. I've been told with the proper tune, you'd be fine with a 75 shot.... But i dont know if i want to test that just yet. I just got My L in July and i didnt get the pulley dill September, and by then i stored it for winter in November.... But this spring and summer i am going to see how will i can do off nos. And if there comes a point where i'm just standen still and not improving my times, i may expierance with a 50 shot at first and then see what 75 shot will do. But if you already have a 3#er, i wouldnt swap that out for a 5 for reliability issues.... But then again a 5 is only 1 more than my 4... And im thinken about doen the same set up, so we're back where we started... I guess i am curious to see how well into the 12's you are now with your mods?

cyntaxx- I have run a 100hp shot 1 time with a 2# lower and I really thought something was going to give. The 100hp shot hits way harder than a 75hp shot. I will not run a 100hp shot on my L again unless I upgrade the rods. However my cousin (10secL) runs a 5# lower with a 100hp shot and has had no problems but I am sure that he is right on the edge.

Shane- You are thinking the same way I have been in the last few days, trying to find out the perfect combination of nitrous and boost and keeping the rods in the block. I have thought about running a 4# lower with a 75hp shot but since I rarely run in the nitrous in the first place I figured I would rather have the extra boost all the time and just use the 50hp shot at the track. However some say that it is better to run less boost and more nitrous because the nitrous isn't going to be on all the time and will be easier on the motor. So who knows. I guess it really boils down to how well you can handle blowing your motor!!
