Covered by warrantee or not I don"t think I want to drive a vehicle anymore that I have no confidence in. Being dumped in the middl.e of nowhere does not feel good.
Wish Ford would face up to this problem and do a recall and fix. Its cheaper for them to fix them as they break un till someone comes to physical harm do to a known defect. Eg being stranded in a dangerous place.
I have had many Mustangs and cobras and 99L but I think I am through with Ford. Not so much because their products are bad but because they won't fix this and other known problems untill they get sued .

 

Yeah it sucks....

But mainly its people blowing stock plugs, or plugs that may not have been tightend right....

Everyone should check their plugs every 5-7K miles.....

 

Right. Its funny because I was going to check them this am. Was on the way to Sears to get the right tools. One has to be a contortionist to reach some of these plugs and lets face it, the majority of L owners dont follow any boards so they wouldn't know. The least Ford could do temporarily would be to issue a bulletin and set up a program with the dealers to check the plugs periodically.

I'm sure that all the other auto manufactures have confidence inspiring troublefree vehicles.

I hear that Mitsubishi is giving away cars with no payments or intrest at all. KIA probably has a similiar deal.

(edit to add) 20,000 miles and you're covered under warranty. If I were on the road brokedown............I'd have called the nearest Ford dealer.............and with an '01 you get a loaner free of charge. It seems as you might not be going about it the right way???? Please enlighten me & others ??????

Did you hear any tell-tale sounds before it blew? Just this past Friday, I heard an exhaust-leak type sound coming from the driver's side of my engine. When I pulled all of the plugs, I found that the #8 (driver's side near firewall) was less than hand tight. I tightened it and the tapping went away. Sorry to hear about your trouble.

I actually didn't really expect to win any friends on the Lightning board by knocking the L or Ford. I was just venting. And actually there are lots of high performance cars that are relatively trouble free. Its just that, like you, I really love my Lightning . Like I said, its not the truck, its Fords refusal to admit to the problem. Every car has its faults, but to go year after year and ignore them is just not right.

There seems to be a few important details missing for me to understand the problem that you have. ????

 

Actually there was no warning. I have been keeping a keen ear on it. It will be towed to a Ford dealer as soon as I can find one that is competent enough to do more than an oil change.

Has anyone out there had any experience with Mullahey Ford or Atascadaro Ford . THey are the closest SVT dealers to me. The local non SVT dealer doesn"t have a good reputation.

And I never said it wasnt waranteed. I just said that ford should fix them before the break since they know its a problem. Even with the warrantee its a royal PIA, but mostly I don't like the lack of confidence caused by the design flaw. Many a guy on this board say they cringe a bit when the go wot with these heads/plugs

 

I never cringe..............almost 36,000 miles on an '01 also. No mods..............does anyone wanna feel sorry for me because of what might happen just after outside of warranty ???

It's a real cruel world............if you have such low confidence, it sounds like you should just get rid of it now.........suck it up........cut your losses and move on.

I don't understand all your complaining.........when you have not even given anyone a chance to make it right yet ???

I havent been to atascadero's service department, but I have ordered parts from them before. At least the parts guys seemed very knowledgeable. They're the outfit behind fordpartsonline.com and I'm sure other board owners have some experience with them as well

 

ZZAPP Its your first and only thread., and with your truck crisis in full swing all you want to do is get out the message that Ford should have a recall. OK we got it.
